Question about 2001 Acura 3.5RL

1 Answer

I have a 01 Acura 3.5RL and the fuel pump is not running.I sprayed starter fluid in the throttle but it still did not start. I seen where one person said you have to drop the gas tank to change pump and another said there is a plate under the back seat. I pulled my seat and did not see a plate to remove. Am I missing something?

No your not. If you removed the back seat and there was no access plate and there was also no access plate in the trunk then you will have to drop the gas tank to replace the fuel pump. Good luck!

Where do I spray starter fluid in an 05 chrysler pacifica..ran out of gas and hoping it will start with the spray..did put gas in

Remove the air intake from the air filter container to the throttle body. Use only a quick shot of starting fluid. Can you hear the fuel pump run? Power cycling the key should get fuel flowing and is safer than starting fluid.

Cranks but wont start

Likely a fuel delivery problem.

Check the filter, as it may be clogged and due for replacement. To test for fuel delivery, open your airbox and spray some starter fluid (purified ether, usually) down into the throttle body while someone else cranks the engine. If it fires up and runs for a few seconds but won't run without spraying the starter fluid, then you know you've got spark and compression. If that's the case, there could be any number of potential issues: throttle position sensor (not very common, but it does happen), fuel injectors clogged (common if you use low-grade fuel), fuel filter/strainer clogged (filters should be replaced every 30k miles or so, on average), fuel pump failure (you should hear a buzzing from the fuel pump when you crank the engine).

If the starter fluid doesn't help, then the problem is no spark. Check each plug/cable for fouling.

Would a faulty electric fuel pump relay be the reason there is no power going down to the fuel pump in a 2002 suzuki grand vitara 2.0 rhz diesel engine

To test fuel flow, have a 2nd person stand over air filter (air filter housing open) with a can of starting fluid in one hand. Don't give any throttle, then 2nd person gives 1-second squirt into air filter while you're turning starter motor (no throttle). When engine catches, immediately give one third to one half throttle. Just before it dies, 2nd person should give another short squirt of starting fluid to keep engine from dying. If throttle won't keep engine running and only starting fluid keeps it running, then yes, no fuel is going through fuel lines. Either its a fuel pump issue or maybe there's restriction because of clogged dirty fuel filter. If it starts but runs rough and has black exhaust smoke, then its clogged or dirty fuel injectors.

My 96 crown vic police interceptor, cranks won't start without spraying starter fluid.. the car won't start without spraying starter fluid into air intake hose to carb...

starting fluid is a thing of the past. dont use it. this car doesnt have a carb, its a throttle body/ electronic fuel injection system. you most likely have a fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator issue. test the fuel pressure, should be anywheres from 35-50 psi

Where do I spray the starter fluidin a 96 dodge caravan

The starter fluid needs to be sprayed on the throttle body. This is done for testing the car with starter fluid. If it runs by spraying starter fluid, then most probably the fuel pump is the problem.
If you notice no start problem on your car/.Then there are many other possibilities too. No start problem. This is many a times caused by weak battery or faulty battery, or can be possible that battery to starter connection is loose or faulty starter itself.First the battery to start and both battery and starter voltage needs to be checked and confirmed. If that is checked ok, then other possibilities like faulty spark plugs, faulty fuel pump etc etc needs to be checked. Will not start on fuel...

If it starts when you spray ether or starting fluid in the throttle body, then it most likely the fuel pump. Have seen this problem a few times. Checked pressure in the fuel line and was there but pump was not outputting enough pressure. Listen for the fuel pump to run (buzz from the gas tank) else it could be a fuse or wiring issue.

Won't start. turning, but won't fire.

If you think its fuel, spray some starter fluid inthe throttle body. If it fires up, you have a fuel problem, otherwise, check your spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. Also, check your fuses.
