What is the best way to install the transmission without snapping the upper aluminum oil pan at the oilpan tranny mount

I am not sure what your referring to, and I used to own a trans shop.
Never in my lifetime, have I broken or snapped off parts to R&R any auto part.

You must remove the oil pan. I do not think you can do this with the engine in the car. If you can remvove the pan from the bottom without engine removal, it would be easy. Most every engine has to be removed to fully remove the oilpan. So my solution is- remove engine, remove oilpan, remove pump, replace pump, pan, and engine.

I cant remove the motor mount or timing cover?


It's as simple as unbolting it. If you don't have the strength, get a mechanic.

How do I change transmission filter


the filter is located inside the pan of the tranny..it snaps in and snap out but requires the tranny pan to be dropped and a new gasket installed

How to do an oilpan on a 88 chevy montecarlo


  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Remove air cleaner.
  3. Remove upper fail shroud (V8)
  4. Raise vehicle and drain oil pan.
  5. Disconnect A.I.R. hose at converter pipe (V8)
  6. Disconnect A.I.R. pipe at exhaust manifold (V8)
  7. Remove exhaust crossover pipe at manifold and converter.
  8. Remove starter.
  9. Remove flywheel cover.
  10. Disconnect transmission oil cooler lines at oil pan.
  11. Remove engine mount 'through' bolts on V8. Loosen right bolt and remove left on V6.
  12. Remove oil pan bolts and lower oil pan. Check that forward crankshaft throw and/or counter balance weight are not extending downward so to block oil pan removal. Turn crankshaft, necessary, to put throw on horizontal plane.
  13. Raise engine.
  14. Remove oil pan.
Installation


  1. Clean sealing surfaces on cylinder case and pan.
  2. Check oil pan gasket for damage; replace if necessary.
  3. Apply a small amount of 1052751 or equivalent to front and rear corners of oil pan.
NOTICE: Only a small amount of sealant is required. Excessive amounts of sealant may cause a problem with proper sealing of oil pan.


  1. Install retaining bolts and torque to 9 N.m (80 lb. in.).
  2. Raise engine, if necessary.
  3. Lower engine, install mount 'through' bolts and torque to 50 lb. ft. (65 N.m).
  4. Install torque converter cover.
  5. Install starter.
  6. Install exhaust crossover pipe at manifold and converter.
  7. Lower vehicle.
  8. Install fan shroud.
  9. Install air cleaner.
  10. Fill crankcase with oil.
  11. Connect battery negative cable, start engine and check for leaks.

Position a suitable jack under the transaxle.
  • Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensors (REFERENCE and POSITION) from the oil pan
  • Front and rear engine mounting nuts and bolts
  • Center crossmember assembly
  • Engine drive belts
  • A/C compressor and mounting bracket
  • Rear cover plate and the lower transaxle bolts
  • Aluminum (upper) oil pan bolts in the reverse of the installation sequence

Bad oil leak not the valv pan or oilpan or sensor


It may be the rear engine seal where the tranny shaft sticks into the engine. I am assuming it is a standard shift of course. Please be kind with the thumbs up rating. I am only guessing and can't see the leak area. Thanks, Raz

Oil pan removal?


Im not sure if you are talking about the motor pan or the tranny pan. But I have lifted the motor and tranny together on a vehicle to change the motor pan and mounts before. I remember having to loosen the fan shroud. Undo linkage on the tranny and make sure the shifter boots were loose. The key for me was going real slow with the crane and having extra eyes around. It was a pain but it worked out.

Well, go over a bump too fast? I did.
The pan is probably made of aluminum. In which case it must be steam cleaned of all oil, before you can weld it. Tough metal to create a good seal, and it may still leak through small holes untill they fill with dirty oil and clog. I would reccomend a new pan and gasket. A very simple operation with the car raised a bit. You may have to remove something simple like a sway bar, for access...depending on the car model.

I'm repairing the oil pan but I can not remove it, how do I remove the transmission


Before you remove the transmission and not knowing the condition of your oilpan, I might be able to save you some trouble.
If you have a few leaks in the metal of the oilpan, JB Weld can be used without replacing a pan. If you have a stripped drain hole, there are oversized plugs and rubber expansion plugs for that problem.

Sometimes you need to turn the crankshaft to clear the rods. And you can clear the frame and the oilpump with the oilpan by loosening the motor mounts and trans mounts and lifting the motor and reblocking the motor mounts.

But if you want to still pull the trans out, you will pull the driveshaft, the trans linkage and dipstick pipe. Then unbolt the starter, torque converter, and finally every bolt on the trans case to motor block. Earlier you loosened the trans mount bolts, now the frame crossbar should be unbolted and everything should drop.

Flushing the transmission


To change the transmission fluid make sure you have purchased: 1. filter with the o-ring 2. MOPAR ATF + 3 Type 7176, p/n 05010124AA fluid (I believe it took 6 quarts?) You are not changing the torque converter fluid so there will not be 12 quarts needed.). 3. Pan gasket. You should receive the new neoprene reusable pan gasket. This is because the recommendation is to change the transmission fluid every 25,000 miles. 4. There is a fluid additive to prevent foaming? Use it.


Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Remove the pan bolts. Remove the old gasket material with a plastic scraper. There could be metal transfer if you use a metal scraper. Clean the pan carefully. Clean the magnet that sits in the pan as it collects the minute metal shavings. If you see an excess of larger particles, you really should have the transmission inspected at a shop. Replace the filter carefully looking at its arrangement before removing. It took a second look to install a new filter because I did not watch how it was situated before removing. Use a thin coat of transmission fluid on the new pan gasket. Orient reusable gasket properly with bolt holes and assemble oil pan and gasket to transmission case. Tighten oil pan bolts to 19 Nm (165 in lbs.). CAUTION: DO NOT OVERFILL TRANSAXLE. DO NOT ADD OIL IF LEVEL IS BETWEEN: LOWER HOLES FOR WARM OIL (100?F). UPPER HOLES FOR HOT OIL (180?F.).
