Rear window on my 2001 sportrac will not move. I had itin vent position and tried to close it. nothing happend , put it in open position and it went to full open. will not move from open position. whats wrong?

More than likely, the motor that moves it failed. You should see if you have voltage at the motor wire harness while "opening" or "closing" the window to verify this.

My sunroof is stuck open its acting like it wants to close but goes back


If you have a 740 with an electric sunroof, when the roof is in the fully closed position you should be able to push the closed switch again and have the rear of the roof pop up to the 'vent' position. If you have a manual roof, after it reaches the closed position you feel a bit of resistance; you then continue moving the crank in the closed direction and the rear of the roof should pop up to the 'vent' position.
If your roof does not move at all, you must NOT pry up the rear edge manually as there are cast tracks at the rear of the panel that hold it in place and you will break, bend, or damage the tracks, roof or the panel.
Most likely it is out of alignment and too tight for the minimal leverage applied by the motor to move it, as well as being thoroughly gunked up. The secret to lack of motion is most likely binding in the up and down motion of the panel. If manual, try moving the crank back and forth, bearing in mind that the first motion the roof makes is that up and down motion at the rear of the panel. If there is resistance to the crank motion immediately, there is 'likely' to not be any damage in the screw mechanism, just binding of the panel in the roof.
If nothing moves as you move the crank towards 'vent', push up gently through that small rectangular opening inside the headliner on the rear of the panel to help it along, by just pushing it free of the roof. The tracks at the rear of the panel move the panel up and down, either to pull it down before retracting or to pop the rear of the panel up for the 'vent' position, and if they are damaged or too gunked up, they will resist opening. The device that is connected to the motor/crank via screw cables slides back and forth in these tracks, raising and lowering the panel, which will not be possible unless you can move the crank/motor. Try to get it high enough to be able to peer inside the roof from the outside to unhook the headliner clips - once you get those, all is revealed and you will be able to see why your roof is not functioning properly.

1990 corvette passenger window just stopped working


is the window switch in the locked position. Might not have on this vehicle.
remove the door panel.
might need to take off any handles that would get in the way.
find the motor and remove the connector.
check for any corrosion or discolored pins.
try the switch with a voltmeter connected between the pins.
should read battery voltage.
if not problem is in wiring.
fuses are the easiest to check.
next try putting connector back on motor to test wire.
hold switch on and very slowly open and close door.
if this makes the window move even a fraction of an inch replace wire.
if nothing happens take the motor out and have it tested.
replace motor if bad.
The window switches have a circuit board that can go bad also.
look for charred or cracked board and at connections to wire harness.

2001 Pontiac Montana rear power windows opened and now they are both not closeing. There is no fuse and I can't close my windows. Please help me.


Power for the rear quarter windows passes through the 10A PWR QTR VENT fuse in the fuse block. 12V is applied to the rearquarter window switch which controls the open and close operation of the windows. If the fuse checks OK, the window actuators and motors are all that's left

GENERAL PROCEDURES Rear Window Motor Initialization s1r~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: Make sure that no obstructions are present in the power rear window system when carrying out this procedure.
NOTE: This procedure must be carried out when repairs are performed on any part of the power rear window system including when: the power rear window motor is removed from the window regulator drum housing, a new power rear motor is installed, a new power rear window regulator is installed, a new power rear window module is installed, and any operation in which grease or lubricants are applied to the power rear window system.
NOTE: All power rear window components (window glass module, window regulator, window motor, and glass runs) must be installed and torqued to specification before carrying out this procedure.
NOTE: Steps 1-6 must be completed within 30 seconds. The entire procedure must be completed within five minutes.
NOTE: Once the ignition key is turned to the ON position in Step 6, it must remain on until the entire procedure is completed.
NOTE: Steps 7 and 9 require that the power rear window control switch be held in the closed position until the power rear window motor stalls the window in the upper header seal. Step 8 requires that the window control switch be momentarily turned to the open position.
  1. Start with the ignition in the OFF position.

I have an 04 GMC Envoy XUV. I went to lock my vehicle and accidently pushed the window button on the remote. The rear window went down and I tried to put it back up with the key but it would not go up. ...


The most common issue with strange acting or random function of a remote, IS THE BATTERY. Replace the battery in the remote before forcing anything or taking things apart. Good Luck!

Where is the rear window relay located on the 2002 Ford Explorer sport trac. Not the rear door windows but the very back window.


  • The power rear window is inoperative (Explorer Sport Trac only)
  • Circuitry.
  • Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse 3 (30A).
  • Central Junction Box (CJB) fuse 20 (7.5A).
  • Power rear window control switch.
  • Rear window glass motor.

NOTE: The power rear window motor is not on the multiplex link. Any diagnosis and testing carried out on the power rear window will not involve the GEM module. NOTE: The reinitialization procedure must be carried out when repairs are performed on any part of the power rear window system including when the power rear window motor is removed from the window regulator drum housing, a new power rear motor is installed, a new power rear window regulator is installed, a new power rear window module is installed, and any operation in which grease or lubricants are applied to the power rear window system.

Hi, I have a 2002 Chrysler voyager (UK) which had the same problem with the drivers window. This issue went on for over 2 years, and I even bought new window runners from the US but still had issues! I have now fixed the problem. The bushes in the window motor had worn to a degree that contact got weaker until no contact was being made at all. I stripped the moter down (easier than I thought) and replaced the brushes at a cost of aroung £5 ($8), now the window is functioning better than it did when I bought at 2 years old, plus I did the same to the passanger window and that improved too. I hope this helps, if you require further info on stripping the motor and removing/replacing it please let me know. (andrew2772@msn.com)

Rear window will not latch


This is a little difficult to explain, but I'll try. So please take that into consideration in the rating. If you look at the latch, it is probably closed/latched. Take a screwdriver and put it in there the upper latch would be if it had closed properly. As a surrogate for the latch. Put outward pressure on the latch at the same time you operate the back window release as you usually would to get it back in the open position. Your latch thinks it's closed, so use the screwdriver to release it back into the open position.
