P0401-Insuffcient EGR Flow, this is caused by clogged EGR ports or a bad DPFE sensor. Is this the 4.6L ? go to my profile page and look at my tips for P0401, try those tips and see if that corrects your light. Hope that helps.

2001 Isuzu Rodeo 4 cylinder Check Engine Light

Normally a shop would use a scanner to watch the operation of the EGR valve and sensor.
Code 401 means the sensor is telling the computer the flow is not enough. So the problem could be the sensor rather than the EGR valve. And yes one of the ports could be blocked too.

My check engine light comes on then it start to blink once I start driving, 1997 town car. 4.6

You need to have the car scanned. It is a free service at Autozone,Advance, or Oreilys autoparts. Then the clerk can tell you some of the possible parts you need. If you get the Code numbers, we can tell you what the onboard computer is telling you.

Be careful if it is a Code 401, for that engine the scan can be wrong. If 401 comes up, it can be a clogged EGR port in the Intake manifold.

Washed engine 2days ago. Next morning it started shaking when idle and had a faint burning smell. Went to Auto Zone and they checked the codes for the Check Engine Light. (codes 300 and 401). What is...

300 is a random multiple misfire meaning several cylinders are skipping its possible an exposed wire may have gotten wet causing a current disruption

Hi there i have 1997 Avalon V6 . the check engine light up # 138 and 401 so can you tell me the name of that two please thnks

Trouble codes are normaly 4 digits with a "P" or "B" before it. I am gonna assume that you meant P0138 and P0401:
P0138 is Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
P0401 is Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected

A code P0138 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty O2 sensor
  • Short to battery voltage in O2 sensor signal circuit
  • High fuel pressure (not as likely)
Possible Solutions Here are some potential solutions:
  • Replace O2 sensor
  • Repair short to battery voltage in o2 sensor signal circuit
for info on the P0401:

Yes you did

PO 401 -- is an egr valve, you could have
bought when you got home, at the local auto
parts store for $90.00 & installed yourself

You never clear any codes or dash check lights
They are used to look up codes & diagnose
OBD2 System issues.

NOTHING goes away.

Those dash lights have been on all
vehicle for 30 years & indicate you have
a sytem malfunction somewhere.

Engine check light, code 401 low egr vacum egr

The EGR and the lift sensor may look perfect from the outside but the under side of the EGR valve and the EGR passage (small tube) are the REAL WORKING parts.

The carbon inside the EGR passage tube and the underside of the EGR valve must to clean out.

Make sure you has a NEW EGR gasket before you start the job.

It's a 2-3 hours job.

If you do not clean the EGR passage tube the Nox emission will get higher (check you past emission reports).
