If you have already checked the battery and it would not even turn, then what is the next step. I have a good alternator but the car would not turn over. I have a Grand Marquis Mercury 1994 model. I need some assistant, a mechanic said it wasn't the starter. I got two mechanics that says it is the battery.... what do you do? I was thinking that maybe if I could use someone else battery to see if it would turn over. Maybe that will show something..

This is a catch 22 as you have not stated fully the symptoms ,Now try a jump start and see what happens or put battery on charge for a mninium of 24 hours and see what happens ,now if it starts with with a jump start then whilst its running disconnect a battery terminal and if it stops renew the alternator ,if it keeps going with battery terminal off then renew the battery ,if it still will not turn over with jumper leads but just clicks then renew the starter motor ,but make sure you use commercial grade leads to try it all out not them boost cables made in china with all rubber insulation and two strands of wire thiner than my hair or whats left of it inside

It sounds like a battery problem. Try jumping it off with a battery and jumper cables in another car. If it starts make sure your battery post are clean and the cables are tight. You may have to take it to a parts store so they can check the battery and charging system.

Woodchuck, that was some of the things that I know was working but the car did not jump. The battery is holding everything still comes on as for as battery and charge concerned I would think.

The starting system includes the battery, starter motor, solenoid,
ignition switch, circuit protection and wiring connecting the
components. An inhibitor switch located in the Transmission Range (TR)
sensor is included in the starting system to prevent the vehicle from
being started with the vehicle in gear.

When the ignition key is turned to the
    START
position, current flows and energizes the starter's solenoid
coil. The solenoid plunger and clutch shift lever are activated and the
clutch pinion engages the ring gear on the flywheel. The switch contacts
close and the starter cranks the engine until it starts.

To prevent damage caused by excessive starter armature
rotation when the engine starts, the starter incorporates an
over-running clutch in the pinion gear. Here is a trouble shooting chart for the starting system.

Won't Start

If it cranks but doesn't start, it's a fuel or spark problem. Check the plugs, wires, and fuel filter first.

Check Engine Light Code 332

332 = EGR valve opening not detected.

You should be able to find a list of DTC's on the Internets somewhere.
