225 is the width of tread
75 is the profile(thickness of tyre from the wheel to the road)
R is radial(you knew that)
16 is the wheel size it will fit
so ...1cm wider...5mm thinner...
your speedo will read faster by about 2mph...
fit em anyway...

The 75 is actually a percentage of tire width vs. tire height (thickness). And in the case of the proposed tire size change, the speedometer will be off by only 0.75 MPH.

Tire and Rim Problem

It appears that you have the wrong size wheels on the rear (17). Standard tire size on that vehicle is 265/75/16. You all so have a full size spare. Keep in mind that if this is a 4 wheel drive vehicle, damage to the drivetrain can result if you continue to drive with diffrent size tires.

There is a sticker inside your drivers door that lists the stock tire size. This is always the best bet. On line is a web sight from tirerack.com that has explanations of tire sizes, tread ratings and on....

Speedometer off due to tire size change and need to reset.

I dont think there is a way to reset the speedometer except installing the proper size for your particular vehicle. I made the same mistake one time . I installed larger tires deliberately ti make the car higher. It didn't work. it was rubbing against the metal when I hit a bump in the road. I had to install the proper recommended tires.

Can I install bigger tires on Mitsubishi Outlander?

the 225 is the sidewall size, the height of the side wall. I also have the same vehicle with a low-profile tire, I know there is not a lot of room in there to go much taller if any. I do see where there could be a problem with the computer but it's a computer it should be able to be re calibrated.

You should have the same size tires in the front and back. By having 2 different sizes, you are changing the gear ratios between the front diff. and rear diff. You could wipe out the t-case especially if it is full time 4wd.
