Try the body control module. Should have scanner to see if you have any B codes

You are barking up the wrong tree if your problem is that the LCD display goes totally off for the digital odometer. A very common problem with the Silverado. The circuit board the display is on has coroded (cold) solder connections that will at first show up intermittently. You can replace the whole circuit board or do it for absolutely no cost by simply remelting the solder connections where the wires connect. It is usually the two connections on one end of the string of them on the board and will be obvious if you look at the connections withy a magnifying glass. Unfortunately you must remove the entire instrument cluster to get at the problem...not really hard to do though and can be done in a couple of minutes. Instructions of how to do it are found on internet. Use a sharp pointed small soldering iron to remelt the solder connections. If you decide to add a dab of solder as well be sure to use the type of solder that is 60/40% tin/lead and that has rosin core to use as a flux to make it melt/flow easily. Do NOT EVER use acid core solder on electrical connections as they will cause corrosion and future failures...the rosin core type is avalilable everywhere...e.g., Radio Shack. I remelted my wire connections on the circuit board and it has been 100% ok ever since then...cost me zero for the repair.

Speedometer not working chevy ss 2003

GM had gauge cluster problems from 2000-2005. Bad stepper motors. On those units you have to replace the cluster or rebuild it with new stepper motors.

2003 Silverado 4.8 V8. Speedometer and tachometer, as soon as underway, read past maximum. When engine is shut off guages do not return to "0"

Hi Norton,

What has happened is your speedometer and tachometer drive motors are failing inside your silverado instrument cluster. I see this very often in GM trucks, to fix the problem you need to have your instrument cluster rebuilt.

Check out this article that talks more about it http://drspeedometer.com/chevy-silverado-instrument-clusters-why-they-quite-working

Thanks,
Fred

I have an 04 chevy silverado v6.3, and my dash doesnt work none of the gauges speedometer, fuel, nothing works, but they did yesterday. What could this possibly be?

The stepping motors in the gauge go bad, but uusually they fail gradually, or just one, The dealer charges $300 to fix, do a search on ebay for CHEVY SILVERADO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER for cheaper repair options. gauges are powered by the pcm, no fuses inbetween, so if it runs ok, problem is in cluster

In my case, simply removing and reseating the IPC/DIC fuse restored the gauges to full functionality.
