Where is the location of shift solenoid

No. Many thing have to come into play for shifting. Since it eventually shifts, I would guess to say seals are going out. The transmission control module will keep applying pressure until it shifts. Until it gives up. Just time to rebuild or replace.

I took my 1999 Ford Taurus to AutoZone because has the Check Engine Light on. They said was a trasmision code. No problems with shifting or running problems. Trying to figure out what could be the problem

the shifting solenoids inside the tranny will make the check engine light go off. Check the wires leading into the tranny and if necessary you may have to go inside the trans to inspect the shift solenoids. It's odd you do not have shifting problems,. neither did I - yet the wire was broke inside and wound up eventually burning off the terminal to the shift solenoid..
Best regards
