Question about BMW 750

1 Answer

I recently replaced the door on a 1997 BMW 740iL. When the doors are locked from inside the car using the auto door lock button, all doors will lock on command. When the button is actuated to unlock the doors, the drivers door will not UNLOCK on command. When the key fob is used, it will unlock the door. Does this seem like a mechanical problem or a software issue?

Sound like a bad lock control switch; if you can open the door, I would check the connections between the door and the body of the car, it'll have an 8mm bolt holding the cover on and it'll need sliding to come out.
It may have broken, or corrosion in the contacts.

If this work with the keyfob, your problem isn't the actuator for the locks has become fatigued and inoperable.

Hope helps.

    Thanks for the quick response.
I'm not following you on the bad lock control switch...does the keyfob bypass this?
I will check the connections at the door -
It sounds like you've eliminated the actuator because it works with the keyfob?

Door not opening from the inside if locked

The plastic bushings on the lock linkage are worn and need replaced, so that the door will un-lock.

Have an '07 328i. Can't lock or unlock doors from the inside or from the clicker. Can only unlock driver's door manually. What is the problem?

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Pretty much a faulty door lock actuator. If the actuators are faulty the locks won't move up nor down, once replaced you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

The doors do not open by remote control key(BMW 740il 1996 model)

Programming
When
Key batteries completely discharged. Key batteries not replaced within 60 seconds. Key added or replaced. DO NOT press remote control buttons during battery replacement.
How
Unlock vehicle. Enter vehicle. Close driver's door. Switch ignition ON and OFF. Remove ignition key. Press and hold unlock button Fig. 1 [1]. Press lock button Fig. 1 [2] briefly 3 times within 10 seconds keeping unlock button [1] depressed. Release unlock button Fig. 1 [1]. Some models: LED Fig. 1 [3] flashes slowly for 10 seconds. Some models: Central locking system locks and unlocks rapidly to indicate correct programming. Some models: Repeat above procedure if central locking system does not work and LED does not flash or LED flashes continuously

To change batteries remove panel back of key then screws on plastic bar
Batteries are available from your local motor factor shop
You might not need new batteries try re programing as described above

2006 bmw 325i remote only unlocks driverside door. will not unlock all doors when you lock it from the inside. have to use key in remote to open door. also central button to unlock doors is inop

fuse 56 and 57 control central locking, the issue is caused by surges typically in the front door lock actuators, normally at a dealer they would replace fuse 56 and 57 with a 20a mini fuse and if still occuring repl the door lock(s) that dont work or typically both front, first replace fuse 56 and 57 with 20a fuses as were too small from factory and than operate ten to 15 times, if it doesnt work at first dont panic, let the car go to sleep which takes about 16 min and than try again this problem has nothing to do with the key fob or the lock unlock button inside, also the fuses are located behind the glove box just rere the access panel and they are found at lower left section

1997 villager just started locking the doors automatically

This is a common issue. You have poorly adjusted inside lock rods, or water in your door lock actuator connector behind the door trim panel , or you need to cut one wire in the driver door wire harness to defeat the autolock function. Go here for info on what to do. See files and also links for this issue. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/villagerquest/
