Question about Dodge Ram 1500

1 Answer

The A/C compressor clutch on my 2001 Dodge RAM 1500 pickup disintegrated and now the serpentine belt won't stay on. How can I bypass this? I measured the path over the pulleys, routing around the A/C clutch and it's 90". I assume I can get a belt that size -- what else do I need to do?

I measured the distance around all the pulleys w/o the A/C compressor clutch (Diagram under the hood shows the proper routing) and got 90 Inches. I bought a MasterPro 90" belt (gates part# K070901) for $25 and it fit. For anyone looking for the right size, the one I bought lists 15/16" X 90 5/8" OC or 24mm X 2301mm OC. I think you might get a shorter one to fit, but I'm not sure. I pulled the a/c clutch relay and fuse from the fuse box -- I'm not sure if that was necessary. Anyway, I'm back on the road, sans A/C. When I get enough funding together, I'll take it to a pro to change the entire compressor and clutch assembly.

I would see if there is a belt specified for your car, with your engine size, etc., but without A/C. Buy that belt, and find a description of the belt path far that model.

You might be able to bypass the A/C compressor that way.

Of course, the best idea is to get the compressor repaired...

How long is a bypass serpentine belt for a 2001 Dodge Caravan 3.3L ?

There was no 2001 Caravans built with 3.3 motor without A/C, so no belt will be listed , there might be a belt that fits , but not always. You could try unplugging the compressor clutch , depending on whats seized you may have to put a new clutch bearing in, but that should be around $20, then just let it freewheel.

What size serpentine belt does a 1988 chevy 1500 pickup take when you bypass the AIR pump?

you can change the clutch on the Ac compressor which has the bearing in it so if the bearing is seized you only have to change the clutch on the end and then you can have your AC working as well without changing the belt ,these clutch units are that expensive and if you can remove the bearing and just replace the bearing on its own then the bearing is about 20 euros or so .

You will need to buy the no a/c belt most likely. Check the diagram in the engine compartment.

Bypass ac compressor 2006 dodge ram 3500 5.9 L diesel I need to bypass stuck ac compressor

Hi:
The easiest method to do this is to go to an auto parts store and buy a belt designed for a truck with no air conditioning. The belt will be the right size, and you just install it as normal, and bypass the compressor
