If your going to work on it yourself ,get a do it yourself repair manuel.haynes chilton etc. try half priced books first then advanced auto or auto zone .when you have the code read for free at auto parts store you should get a print out of troble shooting tips to help you track down the problem such as electrical short could be the pig tail connection needs cleaned or the throttle position sensor is bad or not set correctly.suggest unhooking cleaning with some electrical parts wash (spray) try starting the car with the pig tail off , try starting with it re-attached. also you have something that might be called an idle air adjustment valve it could be stucktry covering the opening to the throttle body graduly alow a small opening .(you are manuely chocking ) in the event that the idle air valve is not doing its job. a word of caution dont mess with the throttle stop screw . while your troble shooting..... best i have to offer good luck

the crank sensor is favorite they are unreliable that explaines why the trans not getting engine speed signal unless its a manual box and that code will allways be logged advise start by checking for water ingress in engine control module located lower rh a post then change crankshaft position sensor or better still try and borrow one from a good running car

My 97 intrepid will start up, but putter out within seconds

Map Sensor or Crank Sensor. If you have a code reader the map sensor should throw a code, the crank sensor most often will not. Both will cause the car to start, idle to around 1,000 R's and then die.

P0300 Trouble Code

Those 2 codes together usually mean there is a vaccum leak(the intake is getting air that is not metered through the mass airflow sensor).Look for PCV and vaccum lines loose(you might have got it by repositioning the air cleaner)

When my car is ran on computer is has cose PO300 PD. What does this indicate?

DTC P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
Basically this means that the the car's computer has detected that not all of the engine's cylinders are firing properly.

A P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why.

Hope this helps.

Idle control and throttle position sensor

It could be both. You can test both with an ohmmeter. Missfire is usually do to faulty plug wire or bad plug. If not idling correct, then the idle control valve or 02 sensor is faulty. If missfiring or popping during acceleration would indicate faulty throttle position sensor.
