Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

1 Answer

For the past few weeks, when I start my 06 Cobalt, It took a bit to turnover--but would. Yesterday, it wouldn't turn on, so my brother gave me a jump. I drove to Les Schuab to have them test the battery. They said it was at 63% and asked how often I drive it. I live where I work, so I haven't been driving it more than once or twice a week. I then drove the car around for about an hour to charge the battery. When I got home and was ready to leave again, it wouldn't start. I had it jumped again. I drove to pick up a battery charger and went to charge it. The charger read the battery at 64% and after a few hours, it was at 100%. I went to turn it on and it wouldn't turn on. I had someone try to give me a jump, but it still wouldn't turn on! Aaah!! Any ideas? I don't have any money to take it to a shop right now... but my dad has been fixing my cars since I started driving and he's looking at it on Friday. Admittedly, he isn't very good at troubleshooting electrical, so Im hoping to get some ideas first.

After checking all the connections and making sure they were clean, I took it to a mechanic. The starter is out. $420!

Battery connections are the usual causes. Make sure the battery post are clean and shiny and the clamps are clean and tight.

The connections to the starter can also be loose and cause this problem.

TRY EMPTYING THE WATER / FUEL FILTER , EMPTY FUEL TANK FROM UNDER VEHICLE & PURGE TANK OF FORIEN MATERIAL WHICH COULD BLOCK OFF PICK UP & THEN FALL OFF PICK UP WHEN PUMPS NOT SUCKING, TRY REMOVING AIR LOCKS WHICH COULD BE IN THE FUEL LINES VIA THE FUEL PUMPS PRIMER SAME AS U HAVE TO DO WHEN U RUN OUT OF FUEL.
GOOD LUCK.

2006 Chevy Cobalt. My power steering goes out.

It sounds like the power steering motor is overheating pre maturely. Changing the motor should take care of the problem. What really happens is the motor reports to the power steering module that it is over heating and the module is shutting power to the motor down, the motor is actually no overheating.
