first you will need to get the right tool for the job , autozone or o'rilleys have the tools to rent to you , then you will need to lock down the water pump and turn the fan clutch to the right to loosen it from the threads then remove the fanshroud { upper half if you can if not then the hole thing at 1 time } then reinstall in reverse order

Is the big nut holding the fan to the clutch right hand, (right to tighten, left to loosen)? 1993 navajo

You mean standard or reverse thread?
Usually crank nuts are reverse thread in relation to the direction of the pulley.

So if the pulley\engine spins clockwise then the nut is probably going to loosen by spinning it counterclockwise.

Afterall it would do no good to go down the road and have the rotation of the engine spin the nut off of the crank pulley eh?

How to install radiatorfan

A fan blade removal tool is required to loosen the big nut behind the fan blades. It screws into the water pump. Once loosened, The fan assembly can be lifted out of the car. Then you will separate the fan from the fan clutch by removing the 4 small bolts. Instalation is the opposite of removal.

I`m changing the water pump in my 1999 dodge ram 1500, but I can`t lose the fan nut that is attach to the water pump.please help.

Those fan nuts are just tough to get off, however it may have "left-hand" threads. If you can see any threads, look straight down at them...if threads are going "downhill" from right to left, then they are common right-hand threads, Lefty lucy-Righty tighty. However if the threads are going "downhill" from left to right, then they are left-hand threads, and you will need to turn the nut "clockwise" to loosen it. Hope this helps....let me know either way!!

How to remove the clutch fan on a 2004 dodge ram

autozone usually has a fan clutch loaner tool set, however in a pinch a strap wrench can hold the pulley and then you have room to fit a decent size crescent wrench. In a hurry you can use an air hammer on an edge (of the nut) going counterclockwise, they also make a neat tool that does basically the same thing, might take a few tries but you will get it.

Rent a fan clutch removal tool from the parts house. Pull the whole unit out of the truck. There are 4 little bolts holding it on.

Is there a special tool to remove the fan from the water pump on a 2004 ram 2500 hemi?

If it has the big nut on the shaft screwed into the pump connecting the fan clutch, then there is a fan clutch tool for this at the auto parts store

Do you know how to get the fan and fan clutch off the old water pump? we took out all 4 bolts on the clutch and still nothing my dad says there is a nut that twists off but have been unsuccessful

You have to hold the belt pulley to prevent it from turning, then unscrew the fan clutch by using a wrench or big channel locks on the part of the clutch nearest the pulley. On your Ram it should be a standard( not left handed) thread. You might have to put the old water pump in a vise to hold it while unscrewing the clutch. When you put the clutch back on you just need to snug it up on the water pump, the pump is a reverse rotation so the clutch will not unscrew itself.

Cannot break the fan loose from the water pump. Is it left hand thread. Is there a speciail tool to hold the fan to break it loose.

The best tool for this is a ratcheting fan clutch tool, although the ones you can rent from Auto Zone work by hitting the wrench with a BFH ( big hammer) possibly quite a few times.
Just changed the water pump on my 1998 Dodge Dakota with a similar setup and had to whack it about twenty times to break it loose being careful not to break anything plastic.
Standing in front of the vehicle turn the nut towards the passengers side of the car and once broken loose, carefully spin the fan clutch off being careful to not damage the radiator.

well if i remember correctly that fan clutch is reverse threads so in other words to loosen it you'll have to turn your wrench clockwise. they do this cuz the rotation of the fan will tighten itself onto the water pump. anyway what i do is leave the serpentine belt on the the pulleys and that will kinda hold them steady whilst you put the "special" wrench on the clutch and pop it loose you'll prolly need a cheater bar to make things easier but not too much or you'll overcome the traction of the belt and it will just slip.
