Question about 2004 Infiniti QX56

1 Answer

2004 Infiniti QX56 multiple problems. Vehicle keeps stalling service engine soon light comes on and the cruise control light comes on. Second problem brakes feels as if the ABS is kicking in and makes a funny clicking sound. This problem was fixed about a year and a half ago now it,s happening again. Third problem when I hit a bump in the road the vehicle jerks to the right almost hit a car beside me. I had the vehicle realigned but still experience the problem. Can you tell me whats wrong with my vehicle and give me a rough estimate of how much money I am looking to spend to get these problems fixed?

Hello. If you have an AAMCO repair shop nearby drive there as they offer a free scan of your vehicle's computer. The scan will tell you why that service engine light is coming on and why the cruise control light is coming on. It will also indicate what is going on with your ABS. If you do not have an AAMCO, call your local auto parts stores as many of them now offer a free scan too.

Your car jerking right usually indicates that you have a bad tie rod. This is an item that you need to attend to as soon as possible for your own safety.

The engine stalling could just be a dirty fuel filter. If you have not had that changed recently do so as it is not a costly fix. THe ABS problem, although annoying is not critical as your car will still brake if that system fails, it just won't self-pump the brakes, you will have to do that with your foot.

As far as cost, you need to go to a great site called which will give you estimates on those repairs in your area. J.

Difference between Air fuel ration sensor to O2 sensor?

usually an O2 code is 3 digits and not this type of code. if it has an mass air flow sensor(MAF) it could be it. I would start with checking the MAF readings then the O2 readings. OBD 2 codes are emission regulated so no matter what car it is the codes represent the same problem.

2004 infinity qx56 it accelaratets when shifting down

Check under site for product safety conditions. The NHTSA will show complaints and resolutions on this site. The technical service bulletins are numbered. If, after you enter all the info about your problem and compare it to past reports, you can get the number of the Resolution to the Dealer. Use every bit of ID the site shows for the solution.

Many times it shows if this is a free repair. You can also REPORT a problem to the NHTSA for investigation.

This can be catagorized under unintended or runaway acceleration. It may be listed under Engine, Controls, or under which part is causing the problem.

In general, it is odd to pickup speed while downshifting. The lower gears would cause the engine to rev up without making the car move faster. If this happens only when the Cruise control is being used, discontinue using the cruise. It is the only part that will open the throttle to maintain speed.

Cruise control light comes on but can't set the speed on my 2001 Altima, is this just a fuse needing to be replaced? If so where is the cruise control fuse located??

There may actually be an issue with the cruise control functions in the engine computer. My suggestion would be to take the vehicle to Autozone and ask them to run an ODB2 diagnostic (this should be a free service, just ask) if you are showing a "service engine soon" light on your dash. Otherwise, you may need to take the vehicle in to a dealership or trustworthy automotive electronics and wiring shop.
