How can tell which lower motor mount is bad on my 2004 chevy impala 3.4 liter ? Does a bad motor mount make the engine have grinding noises after running the car?

With the park brake on, start the engine with the hood open so you can see it through the windshield. Put it in reverse and give it some gas, if the engine moves up, you have a broken mount. Do the same in drive. If the motor moves up then the mount on the side of the engine that moved up is broken. If these tests don't show a broken mount then your grinding noise is coming from elsewhere.

My 1992 Honda accord engine moves and it makes a big clicking sound when I put it into gear or reverse. reverse is getting harder to get into. its automatic.

Sounds like the motor mount (s) is too loose or worn out.
Check it out. If it is then replace new ones.
Good Luck

What kinds of problems would a bad engine mount cause

Motor mounts don't usually sound off with stress on the engine in a standard V-6, but yours is a side-set engine. Motor mounts are designed to give a little bit when the engine torques, that's what they do, but if the grommet is worn or cracked, you might want to have another mount installed. I've added a youtube video of an engine like yours with a harmonic balancer problem. Please view the video and see if this sounds like what yours is doing. If it is, unless you are mechanically inclined, you might need to call a shop.

1998 Camry Reverse noises

this really sounds like a broken motor mount / trans mount. An easy way to check is have someone sit in the car and shift into reverse, then to neutral, then to drive. Have your "assistant" do this repeatedly with the hood up, parking brake ON and foot FIRMLY applying the brakes while you watch the motor move. if you can see a big difference in "jump" between reverse and drive, that is a bad mount. The motor will lift or "jump" higher on the broken mount side. if your really not sure then try a gentle power brake in each direction.

I have this problem on my 88 mk2 vw golf, when you come to a stoplight the car starts to shake a little, but once you get on the gas it disappears, other than that she gets up and goes.

motor mounts sounds like it may be your problem. The motor will shake and stuff, and if they are bad bad, it may break more.. But yes,in order for a motor to work properly, it needs to be mounted tight for all of the moving parts. It can sound like it's stalling. Other than that, I'd suggest a bunch of other things Throttle positioning sensor for one. , sticky EGR, fuel filters, AIC Air idle control. I would say wait and see after mount is fixed, but if you price these things, you may find them cheaper than you may think. Good luck let me know how you make out. Cheers from Nova Scotia

When I start my blazer it makes a clunk on what sounds like the drivers side. It doesn't continue to do it and the engine doesn't shake like if it were the motor mounts. Have any suggestions what...

I would double check the motor mounts. When I check motor mounts i do not look for "engine shake" I put the vehicle in D and hold the brake while lightly applying the accelerator to see how much the engine moves when under load. You also need to do this in reverse to check both sides. You may also want to check your trans mount and give a general go over of the vehicle to see if anything is loose or broken Like an exhaust hanger. Hope this helps and good luck.

2001 toyota corolla makes rumbling sound when i start it, and when i reverse. It stops when i start driving

Thinking a motor mount, try this .Open the hood, then start it ,you should be able to see the engine from the drivers seat,at least a little.Put in reverse and then drive ,if the engine rocks more one way then the other it needs a mount changed. The mounts let the motor move maybe 1/2 an inch,if it moves much more things start to make contact, like the exhaust pipe and the body, making a rumble.

Car makes a big clunking noise when you first start to move

Hyundai Sonata is a front wheel drive.
When moving in a straight line, the noise will be from motor mounts, transmission mounts and stabilizer support from the top / front of the engine.
Inspect for rubber bushing ware and loss mounting.
Lift up the vehicle with jack stand or a shop lift to give a better view of the worn parts.
======
Check the CV plastic boot axles.
A worn CV will make noise on tight turns.

If you have a motor mount going bad, are you suppose to be able to hear a noise of some kind?

Not usually. when a mount is bad, you can FELL the car **** when accell of a stop or changing from Drive to reverse. To check it, put on your parking brake, now hold the brake pedal with your left foot, now put the car in reverse, and press the gas slightly, the engine will move slightly, now put it in drive, the engine should shift slightly, if it moves a LOT like a few inches or moves upward, you may have a mount bad and it needs to be inspected.
