You can repair the exterior door handle as well as replace. The procedure is as follows:-- 1. Remove interior door panel. Gradually "pop" it free from its pins. You can use a screwdriver to slowly wedge each pin free. Take you time but do not fear using a bit of force. There's one screw that needs to be removed using a Phillips
2. Snap cable free from its clips and remove cylindrical head of cable from door handle.
3. Use hex nut screwdriver (10 mm) to remove two screws holding handle in place. It pops out from the outside of the vehicle Be careful not to drop screws down into the abyss of the door's interior.
4. Purchase 1" 5/64" bolt and nut. Drill hole through white cylindrical piece that was once attached to door handle itself (drill straight!). Drill hole with 5/64" bit. Align white piece with strong part of black piece (which was the part which probably snapped) attached to the handle itself. Drill hole through black piece. There should be enough give in the cable to reattach cable later when white and black piece are joined by bolt.
5. Reassemble. -----------
remove the sliding door inner panel for inspection, there are connecting cables to the lock and they either break or just come off, sometimes because of a malfunction with the door lock mechanism, if all the cables are intact the door lock itself may need to be replaced. To open the sliding door, you have to open the front door and reach around to the inside latch. ------------------
Use the 10mm socket to remove the screw inside the cup holder.
Slide the tape-covered flat head screwdriver under the panel and pry. The 10 plastic clips inside will pop out.
Pull down the corner of the sheet of weather-proofing plastic.
-Pull the cable and link head out of the white plastic piece. Remove the two bolts which hold the handle assembly to the door. Remove the handle assembly. If you drop the bolts into the door , fish them out with a magnet on a rod, or enlist the help of someone with small hands.
With the handle assembly removed, you can open the door from the outside by pulling the latch cable.
-The handle has two fingers which fit around the white plastic piece to open the door. One of these fingers had broken off. The other end of the handle pivots on a plastic rivet. Use the small socket to push the three tabs of the rivet in and down simultaneously. Use the flat head screwdriver to pry it out far enough to remove. The handle will now pull free of the assembly. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Opening mechanism inside front door not working - How do I get door open?

Parts are available at a salvage yard. Getting the door open is going to be your problem "unless" you pull the seat out and have room to take door panel off to open the door with the mechanism manually.

2000 Toyota Sienna power sliding door is jammed shut. Any solution?

Open the inside panel of the door by popping off the little white clips holding it on. The cable connected to the inside release button is either caught on something or has come lose. Check out this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkC2OiOiE_U

The sliding door on my 2004 toyota sienna won't close

Try this.....Find the latch on the door, stick your finger in the hole, lift up and pull the door handle at the same time, the inside latch mechanism should go up, then try the door again. It would be nice if that's all it was huh? Sometimes they stick when they get too cold. If this works for you....spray it with some WD-40 or graphite. Hope this worked for you. Cheaper than the 2000.00 motor!

Toyota 2000 Sienna Hatchback latch broke

YOU HAVE TO TAKE OFF THE DOOR PANEL ON THE INSIDE OF THE HATCH, IF IT WONT OPEN YOU HAVE TO DO IT FROM THE INSIDE, THEN THERE ARE 3 10MM BOLTS YOU TAKE OUT AND THE HANDLE AND PLATE LIGHT BRACKET WILL COME OUT AND YOU CAN REPLACE THE HANDLE... FYI MOST TIMES THE HANDLE BREAKS BECAUSE YOUR ACTUAL LATCH IS RUSTED OR FROZEN SO YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE BOTH!!

The sliding door handles of my 1998 Toyota Sienna have both broken.

I replaced both of my sliding door handles this weekend. It was actually pretty easy. Cheapest I could find the handles was a little over $70 each. The interior panel is held on with one screw and 10 nylon clips. The one screw is in the cup holder. Put you hand in the cup holder and push out at the bottom. It pops right off exposing the one screw. I started on the clips from the top at a corner. Seemed to be the easiest place to slide a screw driver under. Once I got the screw driver in, I started working my fingers under the panel. The clips run mostly along the top and bottom about 6 inches from the edge. I made an effort to apply the force as close to the clips as I could to reduce flexing the panel. Once I got the first clip to pop out the other followed pretty easy and the panel lifted right off. Carefully peel back the plastic barrier. The exterior handle is held on with two 10mm bolts. Connecting the short cable was pretty obvious once you could see everything. Now I have to teach everyone to open the side doors very gently! Hope this helps.
