Question about 2000 Ford Focus

1 Answer

I am getting an engine system failure light coming out on my 2005 ford focus. The first day I checked oil and water. The oil was slightly low and I topped up. The water appeared to be overheating and I filled with more water after some water escaped due to boiling. After that I travelled for about 300km at high speeds but there was no problem. The following morning the light came up again. This time the oil level was ok but water was still overheating. I also topped the brake fuild and the light disapeared. I have also observed that the temperature indication is not stable as it flactuates between the 1/4 and 1/2 markings. It has however not gone beyond the 1/2 way marking.

Sounds to me like you are having a cooling system problem, if water is boiling in the tank or radiator then the engine is overheating. If you have not flushed the cooling system, it would be a good idea to do so. Also you need to test the cooling system at idle and see if the engine will maintain normal temperature, without overheating. Overheating can be caused by plugged or restricted radiator, hoses, or the thermostat, also check the operation of the electric cooling fan. Once you solve the overheating you light should stay off. If you do not solve the overheating soon, the engine will suffer major damage, so check it out very soon. Hope this helps, let me know.

I have an 2005 FORD Focus Zetec. After a long run 30 miles the oil light will come on when the engine is idling at about 1,000 revs. It doesnt do this on shorter local trips.

have a oil pressure test done using a mechanical gauge
that will determine if oil pressure sender unit is operational or not
that will then decide if the oil pump is failing
if the engine is original then it may be worn at points that is allowing excessive passing of oil ( hydraulic belt/chain tensioner) rocker arm bushes, big ends , mains, valve for the camshaft position control
The oil you should be using would be a 30w50 viscosity

It illuminates signs in dushboard.what could be the problems

first check your battery and cables... a dying battery and/ or corroded, loose cables may be the cause all those problems

If you don't have the owner's manual, you can get a PDF file of it from a USA ford website: Google search 2005 ford focus owners manual

The battery light means bad battery, alternator, or wires

Oil light means low oil level, bad oil sensor or bad wire to sensor

Abs light, check brakes or wiring to speed sensors or abs computer

Orange check engine light, a sensor or other electrical part has failed or wire broken to that sensor. You will need an obd2 scanner to find out trouble codes!

But, if ALL OF THE LIGHTS ARE ON while car is running, you really need to check and make sure the battery and charging system is OK FIRST

Check your power steering fluid level. If it is low that is probably what is causing the noise. The pump is running dry. If that is the problem it means you have a leak somewhere. I have had this issue with my Focus for awhile. I just check the fluid often. I don't fix things until I absolutely have to. Check your manual my Focus uses transmission fluid for the power steering system.

Hi Canenni, The Engine check light has come on because it has detected a fault in the management system. The best way of overcoming the problem is to take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan. By having that carried out it will identify the area of the problem and you can then have it attended and rectified. Regards John

Hi . Unfortunately it's a common problem with mazda6 engine. When they run low on oil the crank shaft tend to get damaged. And some times people tend to top up oil rather than changing oil between 6000 &10000kms .Yep the engine is seized cost less replacing the engine than repairing it.good luck....

DO NOT DRIVE until repaired/checked....Check your oil level, if ok have the vehicle checked possible oil pump failure or clogged oil ports. If your oil is low/empty have your vehicle checked for oil leaks!! Hopefully this helps!!

Pretty much. The temperature is low enough that if your engine is not properly prepared for the cold you could experience engine issues. i.e. Frozen radiator, tube failures and other issues like low viscosity oil which would create lubrication issues and premature pump failure. Best to ensure that your car is wheater ready for the cold. DRRXR :)
