Have a 2002 jaguar x type that wont start with codes p1638 and p1642 on display any ideas? also reverse lights stopped working

Gearbox is a sealed unit now, from the factory, so no topping up possible.

Sounds like major problem in transmission.

Time to say goodbye, while it is still driving !

How to bypass p1638 security


You can't bypass it. It is security. Either the cluster , ECM or bad data wires is the problem.

I have a 2002 x type jag it will die while driving and wont start back up for about an hour or when first starting it will die and not start until later in the day engine light stays on when it wont s


1) you must the ignition timing ti the m .specificaitonit does not matter that you have EI.
2) test the wire spark plug
3) test the spark plug and adjust the gap
4) test the IGNITION COIL
5) test the EI Module.
6) will be a good idea to scanner +computer test
7) test the sensors for faulty.

My s type jaguar dtc p1638 i dont undarstand the mining of that why, 2000 year it asking me to look in the manual tecnical book


Fault codes are listed in the technical handbook, no good to you as it's a Jaguar service item unless you can get a copy of JTIS from ebay etc.


Fault Code:- P1638 Indicates a Power-train fault


The fault is generally due to a problem in the Computer & Output Circuit area


Fault Description: CAN ECM / INST network malfunction

Action of ECM:- none


After clearing the DTC, complete the Ignition ON 10 seconds
Check for a reoccurrence of fault DTC.


Possible Fault:- CAN open circuit fault - INST to ECM CAN short circuit fault INST failure ECM failure D

Thses codes came up on the diagnostic test. I found the p111 code. I need to know what these code are for p1637, p1642? The codes p0174& p0171, I think they are oxygen sensors. I am worried about the...


ok here we go p111= IAT circuit range problem po171 bank 1 lean po174= bank 2 lean The other codes p1637 and p1642 have to do with the CAN system (Controled Area Network) could have to do with the type of scan tool used.Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak. Make sure when you scan this car you use a scanner capable of communicating with a European CAN. if you need more help get back to me. Hope this helps Thanks Ray
