Buy a cheap voltmeter at someplace like Harbor Freight, for less then $5.
Check the voltage. Doesn't matter where. Can be at the ciragette lighter or across the battery itself.
Should be 12.5 normal.
Drop to 10 when starting, back to 12.5 at idle, and 13.5 when revvved up.
Over 14 volts is bad also
If that is all ok, then not alternator.
Take off battery terminals and clean them, grease them, and while one terminal off, check for current across the gap. With everything off, should be tiny. The radio and clock should be the only things drawing power. Turn on parking lights to see what a real drain should read, probably several amps. If you have a significant drain all the time, you need to disconnect things untl it goes away. Pull fuses, etc., one at a time, looking. Could engine compartment or trunk light, etc. Very last thing I can think of is that I believe this car has a batter heater for cold weather. But it could overheat the batter if malfunctioning. Are batteries going dry?

Jaguar "handbrake failure"on S type automatic 3ltr

the 3 main issues with jag electronic park brake faults are 1st the sliders in the rear caliper frames sieze up which tells the park brake module that the travel is excessive and turns it off 2nd the wiring to the park brake motor chaffes on the rear subrame. 3rd the park brake motor fails. try a battery reset by disconnect the -v battery terminal for a couple of mins. reconnect and work parkbrake on/off to recalibrate, if it still comes on parkbrake failure then try the other poss faults, hope this helps

Wipers are not working and my battery keeps getting dead unless i take terminal off.car is s.type 1999

you seem to have a constant drain on the battery. You can measure this by using a clamp amp meter on the battery positive wire. Try removing relays and fuses on parts of your electrical system until the drain goes down to a very low level. There is always a drain on the battery as it feeds the alarm etc. It may be that you have a hidden boot light or similar staying on due to a bad switch. If you do not have the correct type of amp meter - contact a good auto electrician and he will soon find the problem. As you have a problem with your wipers I would suggest taking the fuse and relay out to this first - as the problem may be here with a wire or connection fault. Hope this helps - good luck.

Electronic handbrake will not release Jaguar S Type 2004

Common problem - normally caused by low battery voltage. Disconnect battery for 10 mins (MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR RADIO CODE) reconnect battery - then follow instructions on dashboard to reset park/brake. Use this method for all p/brake faults as 95% of the time it resets them. Hope this helps - good luck.

2001 Jaguar X Type 2.5lts The engine malfunction light will not go off. I can not find anything obviously wrong. Are there any common faults that occur or is the only alternative to get it on a diagnostic...

if the light is on, it will set a code. go to autozone with the CEL on, and have them do free diagnostic test for defect codes. Code will tell what is wrong.

Does the battery need to be vented on a Jaguar

The new battery is most likely a gel type - they are zero maintenance, non-vented batteries. They are also becoming much more common than the older lead-acid style.
Hope this helps, Sherwin

2000 Jaguar S-Type Battery

I had to change the battery in my 1999 S-Type, you will need the radio code, I also needed to reprogramme the board computer which is easy if you have your manual at hand, also the car might act strangely for a while, but this is explained in your users manual, nothing to worry about.

Hope this helps.
