The starter will connect like so;

Be sure that the "-" negative battery cable is dis-connected from the battery before you begin.

The "+" positive battery cable and all of the other wires with the large eyelet connectors will connect together at the large upper main or "BAT" terminal on the starter solenoid.

The "S" terminal on the starter solenoid is for the field wire from the ignition switch, and it will usually be a purple colored wire, however the wire could also be pink or brown and it will have the smaller eyelet connector.

The "I" terminal if the starter solenoid even has one will only be used if the vehicle is an early year and the distributor has a breaker point ignition, and it is not used for electronic distributors.

Here is a diagram to help assist you, and let me know if you require any further assistance.

There are two small screws on the starter solenoid one is marked "S" (starter) one is marked "R" (run) they go to the ignition switch. The other big battery-type
cable goes to the bolt on the starter rear case.

Well driving my 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo SS the onboard computer seems to be resetting itself and the battery is continuously being drained

I would have your altinator checked and make sure it is putting out at least 13.5 volts at the battery while running if not the check your wires to the starter from the battery and if ok replace the alternator.

Wiring up startrer for 1978 chevy montecarlo

The "+" positive battery cable and all other wires with large eyelet connectors connect to the upper large terminal on the starter solenoid, and the wire with the small eyelet connector (usually a purple wire) will connect to the small "S" terminal on the starter solenoid, and if there is a small "R" or "I" terminal on the starter solenoid it will not be used for your vehicle and it is only for older vehicles with breaker point ignition systems. Won't start getting nothing when i turn key

Recheck all your connections, battery. starter, look for fuseable link on small wire going to starter. Might want to chk.that wire with test light when key switch is in start position and see if it lights. If it does not light might be starter switch under dash on steering colume.
