Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter, a dirty fuel filter will also cause what you have described and a ICM (ignition control module) going bad will also do the same.

You can remove your ICM and have it tested free of charge at Auto Zone or Parts Source when you go and pick up the fuel filter. A bad ICM will cause your engine to stall out and eventually fail totally and your going to have a no engine run situation.

Gas was veryu low,car stalled out.added gas, still won't start almost sounded like something got sucked into the fuel filter right befrore it stalled out

There shouldn't be anything inside of the filter. When a fuel injected vehicle stalls out from lack of fuel, the fuel lines and rail need to have the air bled out of them. An easy way to do this is to put a vacuum pump on the fuel pressure regulator, use vacuum to hold it open, and then turn the key to "RUN" several times without starting the vehicle.

It is possible that when fueling, the fuel is aerated and the pump pulls agitated fuel into the system. you can thry this, fuel up as normal, but wait five or more minutes before starting. see what happens. good luck

1988 chev celebrity stalls when comming to a stop sign.

no timing belt on the particular vehicle. but yes probably something minor, check fuel pressure, fuel pressure regulator, MAF sensor and IAC motor. all these can cause intermitent stalls. The MAF is located somewhere between the air filter and the throttle body. it is a sensor that sometimes gets dirty with air particles and will affect fuel managment. the IAC motor is on the throttle body and if gets stuck with carbon will not be able to control idle. the fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel rail and if the vacuum line is filled with gas then the diaphram is bad. and the fuel pressure should be 35 to 50 PSI running.

Engine stalls when stepping on gas pedal and will not idle on its own.

Have you checked the ignition timing? Maybe you need to turn the distributor to the left or right if you don't have the timing light gun
