Simple lift the mats/rugs in the area of the dimmer, remove the phillips screw and unplug the dimmer switch.

Dimmer switch is on the floor, right? remove dimmer switch and replace with new one. Probably all rusted and corroded inside, you may have blow the brake switch when you hit the dimmer, also check the wiring to both the dimmer and the brake switches.

Low beam fuse

dimmer switch. If its an older truck, it should be in the floor, but if its the newer vehicles, you must lower the steering column, make sure to tape the metal rod in place that works it, mark the location of the switch, and replace with a new one. You may be in luck, sometimes the bolts get loose and the switch will just be out of adjustment, if this is the case, then you should be able to slightly loosen the dimmer, move it up a little bit, tighten it down and be good.

Dimmer switch needs replacing on 87'Chevy truck

if it's not the floor mounted "step" switch, then you need to go to oreilly autoparts and loan a steeringwheel removal tool.
The part that most often fails is the "blinker cam"
Cheap weak white plastic part under the center of the steering wheel.

If you go that far, make sure to disconnect the neg battery cable as the horn ring will have voltage going to it.

Hope this helps.

I have an 1985 chevy monte carlo and my brights do not work. im guessing its a fuse but im not sure what fuse it is because i dont have a diagram.

First, make sure the bulbs are good. Likely it's not a fuse (I've got one outside but it's raining too hard to go look for sure but don't ever remember there being a fuse) but the switch itself that has failed.
If you can't find a switch, you can extend the dimmer wires in the harness and use a floor mounted switch like they used in older cars.

I have a 1984 dodge 4x4 1/2 ton. the headlights dont work just the running lights work when i pull the light switch out. i bought new headlights nothing

some times when the dimmer switch on the floor goes bad the headlights will cut out. Try replacing the dimmer switch and the headlights should come back on. My 84 dodge had that exact problem.

The dome lights and floor lights stay on in my 1993 Buick Regal Custom. I have made sure that all doors are shut tight and still they stay on!!

This sounds like one of your door jamb switches have stopped working.

This could also be the dimmer switch on the dash. If it has failed, it could keep the lights on.

Also make sure you don't have the dimmer switch turned all the way up to where it keeps the lights on all the time.

Headlights go on and off ford f150 1985

FROM THE SOUNDS OF WHAT YOU ARE TELLING ME , EITHER THE DIMMER SWITCH OR THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IS GOING BAD, ALSO IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN THE DIMMER SWITCH IS ON THE FLOOR,IF SO CHECK & MAKE SURE THAT IT IS GETTING A GOOD GROUND TO THE FLOOR, IN CASE OF RUST, ETC, YOU CAN RUN A GROUND WIRE DOWN AND PUT IT UNDER ONE OF THE SCREWS THAT MOUNTS IT TO THE FLOORBOARD.

1984 RAM CHARGER

I have 86 W-150 Ram. Driving along one night and lights went out. My dimmer switch is located on the floor next to the kick panel. It had gotten wet and shorted out. Made a quick repair to get the lights working then replaced dimmer.
