Question about 2001 Mercury Villager

1 Answer

I have a 2001 mercury villager estate. It shifts hard and the check engine light comes on when you run the a/c. It has ben at the ford dealer a month and a half with then trying everything they can think of. They now say it must be in the transmission, but it runs and shifts great until it acts up. Then it shifts so hard it has broken a motor mount. Any ideas?

I would get it out of the dealer.
It is 9 years old, only go there when it is free and under warantee.
Does it only act up with A/C on?
Sounds like a pressure control issues in trans ,only when it acts up.
Not in the trans, maybe a sensor on trans or solenoid in trans.
The shift stratagy and pressure control is being effected by an outside issue possibly.
You need a really good diagnostic tech at a local shop to work it out.

It started at a local shop in fact three different onesw. The last one said the dealer would have to figure it out.
It is doing it all the time now according to the dealer.

I have a 2001 mercury villager and about two weeks ago, the engine services light comes on. My heater does not get hot even when the temperature is half way up. Now, my oil light comes on and I check

Did you check your coolant level? If it gets low you won't get heat. Is the temperature getting completely up to the normal operating range? If the thermostat sticks open your engine won't get to normal range and you won't have good heat.

2001 mercury villager, service engine lignt now on, and it struggles going up hills, wont shift into over drive. you press on the gas and nothing happens. we have had it checked out, and they do not...

need to know the engine DTC code causing the light first. But, it sounds like a distributor is needed. The cam sensor is in there and it controls spark and fuel.

A/C fan switch only works on high

it's your blower motor resistor in the plenum case. They usually blow the thermal limiter because the blower motor is drawing too much current. It's starting to go.
You can replace the resistor, 2 screws under the dash on the passenger side. It has a 4 or 5 wie connector. About $25 from a Ford or Mercury dealer.
Also go to the Villager site for more help.

2001 Mercury Villager Check Light Reset

Well, it sounds like your vehicle may have a bigger problem.  I would go to a shop and have it coded.  There is obviously a problem with the vehicle, may be something minor, but the light won't go off untill you fix it.

Yes, it is a interference engine. If you used the wrong procedure to align components before installing the timing belt, sometimes you can redo the correct procedure and fixed it. Good luck.
