Question about 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

Our 2006 jetta tdi sometimes will not start. 12 months after purchasing new, car would not start.Dealer replaced battery. 12 months later, same problem. this time electronic control module.since then, replaced more batteries and ecm, with no seemingly long standing resolution to the problem. Unhooked positive battery cable and used volt meter between cable and positive of battery. 12.6 volts on meter. Pulled every fuse one at a time with no drop in voltage draw. unhooked alternator wires with same test, and no drop in voltage draw. used a circuit tester(light) between pos cable and pos terminal. the light came on. has to be a ground in the positive circuit somewhere. HELP!!!!!

Replace battery and alternator 2x in 6 months

Get a cheap multimeter and test for drain, sometimes it is the starter, check the battery at all off, and running, your parts I hope are warrantied have them both tested and checked, The starter and or coil can cause weird electrical issues and a bad ground could be causing everything to work harder. You need an honest mechanic who cares about solving the problems.

How do i get my car to start after battery is low?

I recommend removing the battery and the battery box.Purchase a ground cable that will reach from your engine block to your battery. Attach your original ground cable to the engine block.. Attach the new ground cable to the engine block and then install battery clamp to your new cable...Reinstall battery box and battery reconnect pos. & neg. terminals

Your Jetta has a block heater available. It plugs in and keeps the block warm, making it easier to start. Below is a link with step by step instructions for battery replacement.

2006 Jetta TDI Electrical!!!

There is a known issue with the wiring harness in the doors. It's possible that the passenger door also has a bad harness (assuming they swapped out the one in the driver's door) Is that a correct assumption? It may still be related to your original problem too. I've heard of disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes to reset the electrical (door switches). You should def give that a try - it's free.
Also check out the forums at - those guys know their VW TDI's...

Key will not go into ignition, drivers door lock stopped working

I have solved the problem with the help of others who post earlier comments who had a similar problem. I read that the tang at the entrance of the tumbler sleeve that receives the key is plastic and that by using a small sturdy screw driver you can bend the tang in. I was then able to insert the key. I plan on having a new tumbler sleeve installed in the near future.

I suggest trying a diesel additive in your tank if you haven't been using it. It is available at Walmart as I use it all the time. I have 64K miles on my 06 Jetta TDI with not problems. You also could have something in your tank causing the problem. (condensation)
