Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

3 Answers

I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado. The air conditioner blows cold air but it barely comes out of the vents. The problem is not the temp of the air but the pressure. I have it turned all the way as hard as it will blow and it just barely comes out. There is a difference between each setting. High is like med or low, medium is like low/lower, and low is almost non existent.

When car air conditioning barely blows out air from a/c vents, usually the problem is the blower, its either failing blower or sliding blower wheel from the blower motor shaft, another reason is that blower might be suffering from a faulty dashboard blower switch assembly, making the blower not operate on maximum operation even if it was set on the highest setting.

Air duct blockage also restrict the flow of air from coming out the vent, because of a closed or nearly closed air doors that is stuck inside from one of a/c duct, this prevent the air to come out the vent, also it is possible that an accumulation of debris such as leaves from a fresh air intakes prevents the flow of air, but the restriction of air can only be felt when your car air conditioning is set to "fresh".

Did you check the other vent for air flow (defroster & foot) if it is the same when switching the knob, remove the fan motor located on the right side under the dash, put your hand in the hole and scrap the heater core with your finger nails, I ran into this problem, using stop leak will leak out of the heater core and collect dirt, I sparyed brake cleaner on the heater core without removing it, when the air flows it will smell like brake cleaner, so no flames or cigs. open the doors to air out, takes about 5 min.
If it does blow good thru the other vent then you have a actuator not closing the vent door.

Usually a sign of a faulty blend door under the dash.

If you know for a fact the compressor is running and one of the lines is cold, I would look for a blend door problem. The blend doors direct air thru the heater and evaporator.

2003 chevy silverado air does not blow through vents. Condenser works. Pipes are cold. Fan works. Modular (next to fan) repalced to get fan to work. Heater air conditioner controls under radio replaced....

The air vents are control by vacuum line and or linkage.

Listen for hiss or feel for vacuum leak under the dash,

Feel for broken linkage(s) that are close to the vents.

WORK BACKWARD if you have small hands to feel out where is the missing link.

I have a 2003 chevy silverado that is blowing hot air through the vents when the temp is set at its coldest setting

check under the dash to see if the blend door is operating, this ian internal door between the heater core and the a/c evaporator. also check that the drain hose from the evaporator make sure its clear and water is coming out of it,otherwise the evaporator will freeze solid and therefore no cold air

1999 Ltd. The right vents blow hot air but left vents blow cold

Yes go to you have to get the codes from your ATC controls first...Hold down the A/C button and the Recirculating button at the same time and while holding the two buttons turn you left temp. control up. It should give you codes if not then it will just read 00. Once you get those find out what they mean...20, 46,52,or 54 means you blend door(s) are stuck down and have to come up to allow heat to flow. Go to www.heatertreater.net and it will tell you how to replace it or in my case I just fixed it by putting a screw in it to hold the doors up....But hey i'm cheap so i like quick fixer uppers!!! Try that and lemme know if it works...
