Question about 2008 Ford Ranger 2WD

1 Answer

Hi, several months ago, I lost my only key to my 2004 ford ranger; I purchased two new blank transponder keys from Ebay. When the blan k keys arrived, I took them to the only locksmith that cut & program the keys, The locksmith ask me for the serial number located in the front of the glass window. They cut the keys wrong and charge me $150.00. Now today , the only locksmith on St. Croix US Virgin Islands has closed shop.(out of business). If I can give you the serial no. so you can get the code for the keys. I need help, this is my only transportion. Thank you Roz

the old keys or another expedition key can be reprogrammed to your vehicle, the only thing is you would have to change the lock cylinder to match the key or swap the ignition from another expedition with that has the key

SOURCE: lost the only key I had for vehicle

The key codes are on a plastic card or metal ring that came with owner manual packet. Look in glove box.

Also, call another dealer to confirm if available from Ford. I thought we went back to 1998 for scanning codes but I could be wrong. they will need your 17 digit VIN number.
Finally, a lot of thimes, the selling dealer records them in the sales folder just in case they need it on the lot. Do you know the selling dealer.
Finally, a locksmith can help.

Unless you have two keys left... IT IS
Locksmith time...

Dealer cost twice as much (in my opinion)...
Call them... Check it out.

A reputable locksmith will cut and register a new key(s) for you...
If you still have ONE... I recommend TWO MORE...!!

When they have you over a barrel its MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE.

(see owners manual)

The best cut price I have had was $6...
(because it was my 3rd key)

If not starting then you have to check out the components in the ignition and fuel delivery systems. Without gas and/or spark there is not an engine on this planet that will run.

How toprogramm car key toyota matrix

  • 1 First you will need to purchase a blank Toyota transponder key. You can do this from the dealership, a locksmith, or an online source such as eBay. Once you have the key, take the blank key and the master key to a locksmith that he or she can duplicate the key. This will be much cheaper than the dealership.
  • 2 Now that you have the newly cut key and the master key, you can program the Toyota transponder key. Sit in the driver's side of the Toyota vehicle. Press and release the brake and gas pedal simultaneously.
  • 3 Insert the master transponder key. Do not turn it. Push and release the gas pedal 5 times within at least 15 seconds of inserting the master key.
  • 4 Press and release the brake pedal 6 times within 20 seconds of completing step 3, then remove the master transponder key.
  • 5 Insert the newly cut transponder key into the ignition, but do not turn. Press the gas pedal once.
  • 6 Wait up to 2 minutes or whenever the security light on the dashboard turns off. Once the light goes off, remove the new transponder key and press the brake pedal once. The new transponder key should now be programmed. Test the key by attempting to start the engine. If the engine does not start, repeat the steps above.

Will a bad key ignition switch effect the inderctor light on the dishboard

New keys with cylinder may not have a transponder chip , or new keys will need to be programmed. you will require two keys equipped with proper transponder for your vehicle, and either new keys cloned with the old transponders. If you have lost the original keys , you will need someone to remove the original keys from the pcm , than marry the 2 new keys to the pcm. If you have an original key , try placing it by the lock cylinder when attempting to start with the key supplied with the new ignition cylinder.

I have a 93 Ford Ranger (2.3L 4cyl 5spd manual) and the key lock cylinder is going bad, meaning the key sticks & then won't turn the ignition for 2-4 tries, but then if I turn the ignition switch...

You will need a new lock cyl. which is best purchased from ford, the tumblers are the culpret in your situation, you shouldn't need to remove the steering wheel the cyl can be removed after taking the trim bessels off, also if yours has the big black plastic key you have a transponder antitheft system so it is best to us ford cyl and code it to your original key so no need to reprogram keys, IE aftermarket cyl w. new keys.
The cyl should be about 100+ depending where you live.
