There is only a couple of bolts holding it on. Can't get any simpler than that. It's out in the open for the most part.

Circuit/System Description
The throttle actuator control (TAC) system uses two accelerator pedal position (APP) sensors to monitor the accelerator pedal position. The APP sensors 1 and 2 are located within the pedal assembly. Each sensor has a 5-volt reference circuit, a low reference circuit, and a signal circuit.
Two processors are also used to monitor the TAC system data. Both processors are located within the engine control module (ECM). Each signal circuit provides both processors with a signal voltage proportional to pedal movement. The processors share and monitor data to verify that the indicated APP calculation is correct.

DTC P0455: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Large Leak

The control module tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a large leak. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor signal to determine the EVAP system vacuum level. When the conditions for running are met, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve OPEN and the EVAP vent solenoid valve CLOSED. This allows engine vacuum to enter the EVAP system. At a calibrated time, or vacuum level, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve closed, sealing the system, and monitors the FTP sensor input in order to determine the EVAP system vacuum level. The following table illustrates the relationship between the ON and OFF states, and the OPEN or CLOSED states of the EVAP canister purge and vent solenoid valves.

Electronic throttle control problem .
The throttle actuator control (TAC) system delivers improved throttle response and greater reliability and eliminates the need for mechanical cable. The TAC system performs the following functions:
• Accelerator pedal position sensing
• Throttle positioning to meet driver and engine demands
• Throttle position sensing
• Internal diagnostics
• Cruise control functions
• Manage TAC electrical power consumption
The TAC system includes the following components:
• The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensors
• The throttle body assembly
• The engine control module (ECM)

Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor
The accelerator pedal contains 2 individual accelerator pedal position (APP) sensors within the assembly. The APP sensors 1 and 2 are potentiometer type sensors each with 3 circuits:
• A 5-volt reference circuit
• A low reference circuit
• A signal circuit
The APP sensors are used to determine the pedal angle. The engine control module (ECM) provides each APP sensor a 5-volt reference circuit and a low reference circuit. The APP sensors provide the ECM with signal voltage proportional to the pedal movement. The APP sensor 1 signal voltage at rest position is less than 1 volt and increases to more than 4 volts as the pedal is actuated. The APP sensor 2 signal voltage at rest position is less than 0.6 volt and increases to more than 2 volts as the pedal is actuated.

DTC P2138: Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor A/B (Throttle Position Sensor D/E) Incorrect Voltage Correlation.

Accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor A and accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor B are potentiometers, and they are installed in the engine compartment.

The APP sensors A and B are operated via the throttle cable to determine the accelerator opening value when the driver presses the accelerator pedal. The accelerator pedal opening value is converted to a signal in APP sensors A and B and transmitted to the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) to compute the target position. The target position signal is then transmitted to the throttle actuator control module.

APP sensor A is for the primary control, and APP sensor B is a back-up of APP sensor A in case it malfunctions. Both sensors compare their output voltage to each other for malfunction detection.

When the voltage difference of APP sensor B is out of a fixed range for a set period of time, the ECM/PCM detects a malfunction, and a DTC is stored.

No messaage of reduced engine power ? Your vehicle has electronic throttle control . Has four position sensors , two are located in the gas pedal ,an two in the throttle body . The PCM uses these sensor to know how much to open the throttle plate ,allowing more air into the engine . How did you read this code an where did you read it's definition at ? This is not a code for your vehicle . Some time cheap code readers get them wrong .

Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the ECM detects a condition with the TAC system, the ECM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The ECM will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The ECM will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the throttle position, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned off.
- Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
• Engine shutdown mode--The ECM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

First of all a scan tool is need for this not a code reader, you need to view scan data after you find what code is stored in the PCM. It could have a problem with the powertrain control module, wiring, or the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensors. Here are a few codes that could set .

P2138 NISSAN Description The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is installed on the upper end of the accelerator pedal assembly. The sensor detects the accelerator position and sends a signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM).
Accelerator pedal position sensor has two sensors. These sensors are a kind of potentiometers which transform the accelerator pedal position into output voltage, and emit the voltage signal to the ECM.
In addition, these sensors detect the opening and closing speed of the accelerator pedal and feed the voltage signals to the ECM. The ECM judges the current opening angle of the accelerator pedal from these signals and controls the throttle control motor based on these signals.
Idle position of the accelerator pedal is determined by the ECM receiving the signal from the accelerator pedal position sensor. The ECM uses this signal for the engine operation
such as fuel cut.

    Description & Operation

    A power supply is applied on the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor (main) power terminal from the PCM. The ground terminal is grounded with PCM. When the accelerator pedal is moved from the idle position to the fully opened position, the resistance between the accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output terminal and ground terminal will increase according to the depression.
    A power supply is applied on the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor (main) power terminal from the PCM. The ground terminal is grounded with PCM. When the accelerator pedal is moved from the idle position to the fully opened position, the resistance between the accelerator pedal position sensor (main) output terminal and ground terminal will increase according to the depression.

Testing

  1. Connect a suitable scan tool to the diagnostic connector. Select APP1 or APP2 percentage.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Measure the voltage at the PCM terminal and ground with connectors connected:

    APP1-8% load or 0.4 volts with the accelerator pedal releasedAPP1-60% load or 3.0 volts with the accelerator pedal depressedAPP2 -8% load or 0.4 volts with the accelerator pedal releasedAPP2 -60% load or 3.0 volts with the accelerator pedal depressed
  4. If any check above does not meet the specifications, check connectors and wiring between the sensor and PCM. If ok, replace PCM.
  5. If the measured values are outside the standard value range, or if the load % and/or voltage does not change smoothly, replace the sensor.

I have an 2006 lincoln navigator and i had 2 codes p2104 and p2112 i changed #2 spark plug and coil then i got a fail safe mode turned truck off then back on then went away then i got the two codes p2104...

Since you have already changed the TPS, I assume you also cleaned the throttle body? Is the throttle actuating smoothly? If not, make any repairs needed to make it smooth and easy to rotate the throttle.
If the throttle is good, then test the accelerator position sensor per the procedure below.

OperationThe APP sensor is an input to the powertrain control module (PCM) and is used to determine the torque demand. There are 3 pedal position signals in the sensor. Signal 1, APPS1, has a negative slope (increasing angle, decreasing voltage) and signals 2 and 3, APPS2 and APPS3, both have a positive slope (increasing angle, increasing voltage). During normal operation APPS1 is used as the indication of pedal position by the strategy. The 3 pedal position signals make sure the PCM receives a correct input even if 1 signal has a concern. There are 2 reference voltage circuits and 2 signal return circuits for the sensor.
Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Disconnect the accelerator pedal position sensor electrical connector.
  3. Remove the 3 bolts and the accelerator pedal assembly.

To install:
  1. Install the 3 bolts and the accelerator pedal assembly.
  2. Tighten the mounting bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  1. Checking the VREF voltage to the Accelerator Pedal Sensor

    Turn the ignition switch to the off position. Disconnect the Accelerator Pedal sensor connector. Measure the voltage between pin 6, 7 (ETCREF+) and 1, 3 (ETCRTN-). The voltage should read between 4-6 volts, If not repair circuits in question.
  2. Checking the Functionality of the APP sensor.

    Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Accelerator Pedal sensor connector. Refer to Resistance Chart:

The lightning bolt indicates a fault in the electronic throttle control. It is likely the rheostat/potentiometer in the accelerator position sensor is dirty or worn out. I have pasted info on the part below from autozone.com. If you replace the sensor, be sure to follow the calibration procedure at the end of the installation instructions. Removal & Installation
The APPS is serviced (replaced) as one assembly including the sensor, plastic housing and cable. The APPS assembly is located under the vehicle battery tray. Access to APPS is gained from over top of left / front tire.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
  2. Disconnect APPS cable at accelerator pedal.
  3. Remove wheel house liner at left / front wheel.
  4. Gain access to APPS electrical connector by opening swing-down door.
  5. Disconnect electrical connector.
  6. Remove 3 mounting bolts.
  7. Remove APPS assembly from battery tray.
  8. If cable is to be separated at APPS, unsnap cable clip from ball socket. Release cable from plastic housing by pressing on small cable release tab.

To Install:
  1. Install Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) cable to accelerator pedal. Refer to Accelerator Pedal Removal / Installation.
  2. Connect electrical connector to APPS.
  3. If necessary, connect cable to APPS lever ball socket (snaps on).
  4. Snap APPS cable cover closed.
  5. Position APPS assembly to bottom of battery tray and install 3 bolts.
  6. Install wheelhouse liner.
  7. The 5.7L V-8 engine is equipped with a fully electronic accelerator pedal position sensor. If equipped with a 5.7L, also perform the following 3 steps:
    1. Connect negative battery cable to battery.
    2. Turn ignition switch ON, but do not crank engine.
    3. Leave ignition switch ON for a minimum of 10 seconds. This will allow PCM to learn electrical parameters.
      NOTE The DRB III Scan Tool may also be used to learn electrical parameters. Go to the Miscellaneous menu, and then select ETC Learn.

  8. If the previous step is not performed, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set.
  9. If necessary, use a proper scan tool to erase any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from PCM.

If it is a code P0226 I would not consider it a safety issue.

This might only be an adjustment issue--make sure the throttle cable isn't so tight that the throttle cannot fully close.
If the cable is OK, it is probably the accelerator position sensor under the pedal.
There are procedures for testing the unit that I will paste below if you care to try them.

If you just want a shop to fix it, the part is about $50 and labor should only be 30 minutes.


Operation The sensor is made up of the two individual sensors within a single housing. Each sensor has a unique functionality to determine pedal position. The APP system along with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is used to calculate and control the amount of acceleration and deceleration through fuel injector control.


Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the driver-s side knee bolster.
  2. Push down on the small tab and disengage the electrical connector.
  3. Remove the pedal bolts and remove the pedal and sensor assembly.
  4. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Testing

  1. Install a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the 5-volt reference terminal of the APP sensor and 5 volts. Install a jumper wire between the low reference terminal and a ground.
  2. Sweep the sensor through the entire range while monitoring the voltage between the signal terminal and the low reference terminal with a digital multimeter. The voltage should vary between 0.30-4.98 volts without any spikes or dropouts.
  3. If the voltage is not within the specified range or is erratic, replace the accelerator pedal assembly.
