When i start the truck it runs good until it warms up then it acts as if its getting to much gas and dies

Was the alternator bad or going bad. Changing that won't change it starting. Just charging to keep running. As I tell others you need 3 things to make it start and run. Good battery for the starter. Fuel and spark. Test for gas and spark are needed to know which is not working. Did you run it out of gas would be my first guess

• It sounds like you may have a bad head gasket or even cracked , When the car get warm it opens up and if your rad fluid is going it your cylinders and causing the car to misfire and smoke . The easiest way to tell the health of your motor is to do a compression test and look at the oil and rad fluid .

Fuel filter clogging up..or fuel pump/strainer malfunctioning/clogged

Good chance it is not getting fuel, or enough fuel.
When the rig is cold, the choke is closed. As it warms up, the choke opens.
If the metering jets inside the carb are dirty, they may not be letting enough fuel into the barrels. You could also have a vac leak that is masked by the choke until the engine warms up.

Sounds like a coolant sensor problem. It signals the ECU for open loop, cold start rich, high idle, until warm up is reached.

I would start with cleaning the throttle bore and plate. Then clean the Idle Air Control valve, IAC, as this is the device that controls idle speed. Use a can of spray carb cleaner and an old toothbrush. Trouble with the IAC would make sense if you can keep the engine going by holding down the gas pedal a bit.
Use the carb cleaner to check for vacuum leaks at hose connections and elbows. run engine and spray short bursts at hoses and listen for idle speed changes.
And lastly if problem is still there check MAP sensor.

sounds like a typical ignition coil break down. when they go bad they act up when they get hot. very easy to replace. it is what the plug wires come from.

Turn on the key and listen by the fuel tank for the fuel pump to hum. A common problem is low fuel pressure. It will build pressure when the key is turned, use that fuel, and then the pressure drops. Kind of like when you're using a squirt gun that's getting empty.
