Question about 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

Have a "96 chevy blazer, when it is hot outside (really hot) the engine just stops, no electrical, no gauge differences, no indicators of a problem, just driving down the road and all the sudden, nothing. Ive had this to a garage numerous times, they can't get it to replicate the problem. When this happens, I can get to the side of the road, wait about a minute and it starts right back up, will drive for a very short distance maybe 1 10th of a mile and it shuts off again. If i leave it sit for about 20-30 minutes, its okay for quite a few miles before it does it again. When it is cooler outside, it runs great, no problems, but when the temp is up outside, this seems to be the only time it acts up. The garage has hooked it up to their computers, and they have no issues, everything is fine. Could this be the EGR valve (regulator) ?

Clean the idle air valve on the throttle body. The IAC valve is located on the driver side of the throttle body.Clean this valve and check. If still the same problem the EGR valve needs to be checked and replaced. If clogged and dirty then clean it and refit and recheck. If too carbon is got collected on the valve then it may be a vacuum leak.Get the vacuum pressure test done at local car garage to confirm where the leak is. Also Get the fuel pressure checked. If its less then its quite possible that fuel pump needs to be replaced and fuel filter is got clogged. Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

What is causing my 96 Chevy Blazer 4.3 to read low oil pressure at an idle? Oil is full, and check gauge light comes on when the oil pressure gauge shows low.

Hmmmm
20 years old.
Could be it's just getting tired, as in worn components.
As long as you're getting adequate pressure at operating RPM it should not be a major concern.
If you're not using 15W 40 I would suggest doing so.
Cheers.

96 chevy blazer won't start.

I'm following another issue like this on a 1996 Jimmy.
This engine requires 60psi or more fuel pressure to run.
You need to have someone check the fuel pressure at the rail- throttle body with a gauge.

I have a 96 Chevy Blazer 4x4, when driving last night, I noticed the oil pressure gauge drop to zero. After a few moments, it rose back up to where it is normally (around 70, if I remember correctly). As...

Hello,

Many things can be causing this issue, the worst is an engine problem, but before thinking the worst lets point out some of the not so nasty things.

The sensor could be bad, or the gauge in your Blazer could be going, if you have those vac tube digital gauges be known they do have issues, if you have the normal "arm sweep" gauge they are temperamental as well.

Another often overlooked problem is a clogged or very dirty oil filter causing sudden spikes and or drops.

Some electrical gremlin can be messing with the readout, sudden loss of a ground or feedback over the wires could cause problems.

The sensor for your Blazer is under $50 at Advance Auto Part No. 12553175 , it would be worth it to replace and then see if you still have the problem.

Below is typical oil sensor replacement, tho it's not your Blazer this should give you an idea on what to do.

Hope this helps.

Water pump froze and stalled the truck. i replaced the water pump but the truck run really rough at idle 2000 chevy blazer 4wd 4.3l

Usually if a water pump freezes,it will either snap the v-belt or spin off the pulleys. The motor usually has enough power to do this.Maybe there is another problem that has not been spotted yet.How hot did the motor get?Check each sparkplug for signs of water or one that is different looking to the others. This may indicate a problem. If the motor did get hot it may have done a head gasket.Hope this helps
