The only solution I know of,would be to purchase the Factory Wiring Diagrams from (Helm.Com)
They are not cheap, but you have a serious problem and need exact schematics of your vehicle.
That said, and not to be hurtfull, but, can you read wiring diagrams and chase alot of wires, as well as solder, heat shrink, etc.
You need to be able to use a VOM Meter, for OHM and Voltage readings and voltage drops. Fun job I would enjoy, oddly enough. Clean work, but very time consumming. Good luck!

You have a short somewhere. Did you replace the radio? Perhaps you crossed some wires somewhere. I would have a technician look at it just to make sure you don't blow all your circuits.
Good Luck

It sounds like the AC controls or the Interior blower fan shorted and the smoke you saw was the insulation melting off the wires. You need to get into the wiring under there and locate the burned wires. It won't be hard to identify which ones are the problem because they will be brittle and the insulation will be burned away.

Getting ready to replace my factory radio in 99 ford expedition -- all the guts have been removed where the radio sits --what do i need to fix this to install new radio

At most stores that sell radios ( even Wal-Mart ) sell and installation kit for your car ( yes it'll fit alot of other different cars, You also need a wiring harness adaper for your car too as this gets all the wires connected correctly and comes with directions.

My 97 nissan pickup truck died and smoke came in thru the glove box and smelt like wires burning what could this be

You have a short under the dash or near the firewall under the hood. This is a major fix and you will need a wiring expert. Bad news for you. I am so sorry.
If for some reason someone installed a new radio or stereo system then they may not have taped a bare wire good enough and it bumped against a hot wire or ground wire. Look under the dash and see if you can feel or see any melted wires and check for melted wires under the hood as well. You may get lucky and minimum wire damage might have occured. I wish I was there. I could look for you. Good Luck and please let us know how it turns out. The Raz

arent you still under warranty?! check the positive terminal of the battery(common gm issue). check the wiring at the starter motor and look for burned wires. if there is consider the warranty. BY THE WAY, IF YOU HAVE HEAVY SMOKE AGAIN, DO NOT "POP" THE HOOD! IT CAN CAUSE AN AIR FEED AND POSSIBLY IGNITE A FIRE IN YOUR FACE. ive put out car fires in iraq. its not fun getting or treating people for burns. let me know if you need further assistance. cheers

After getting my batterry replaced on my 2003 ford explorer sport my radio will not power on? any suggestions

I would start by checking the fuse. If it is good, you may have to pull the unit. Is it a stock unit or aftermarket upgrade? Alot of time the aftermarket radios have there own power wire and the person who replaced the battery may have left off the power wire under the hood. Hope this helps

Battery drains down over night, new battery alternator is charging

That means that there is a short or a problem to the wirings to car stereo, or doors. No matter if the radio is not mounted.

Inspect all the wirings to car stereo , doors and internal lights.

If you do not find anything you will need to check amps to door, internal lights car stereo, etc, by doing a draw test on this wirings.

This will tell you where the problem is.
