Question about 2006 Audi A4

1 Answer

06 Audi A4 with 37,000 miles. Dealer say it needs brake pads front and back as well as rotors in the front. This is my wife's car and she is a conservative driver. Why would it need rotors and rear pads. Additionaly they say the upper control arm bushings are going.

Why dont you just pull off one tire in the front tires off yourself and inspect the rotors with you finger nail...run it up and down the surface if it gets caught on anything or you feel deep groves then yes hes telling you the truth! Have all brakes done!

I'm looking into changing the front brake pads on my '06 Audi A6 3.2. I've been told that I would need some sort of computer to change the pads and erase the brake service code on the dash. Is this ture ?...

The light should shut off after the new pads are in and the car cycles through the entire system. If it doesnt, you can still replace them and then just have the dealer or a shop with a scanner reset the light.

YOU NEED REMOVE A LITTLE BRAKE FLUID FROM MASTER CYLINDER.THEN YOU RAISE VECHICLE SAFELY.SUPPORT IT WITH JACK STAND.MAKE SURE VECHICLE IS ON LEVEL SOLID GROUND.REMOVE TIRE OR WHEEL.THEN YOU NEED A LARGE C - CLAMP.PLACE C - CLAMP OVER BRAKE CALIPER AND BRAKE SHOE BACKING.TIGHTEN C - CLAMP JUST ENOUGH PUSH CALIPER PISTON BACK IN CYLINDER BORE TO REMOVE CALIPERS FROM ROTORS.TO REMOVE BRAKE CALIPER YOU NEED 2 OPEN AND BOX END WRENCHES ONE TO HOLD CALIPER SLIDE PINS AND THE OTHER WRENCH FOR LOOSEN CALIPER BOLTS.THEN YOU REMOVE CALIPER AND REPLACE FRONT BRAKE SHOES.IF YOU NEED TO REMOVE BRAKE ROTORS JUST REMOVE THE BRAKE CALIPER CARRIER SUPPORT BOLTS THE REMOVE THE BRAKE CALIPER CARRIER SUPPORT THEN REMOVE ROTOR.YOU NEED TO REPLACE BOLTS WITH NEWS AND USE LOCK TIGHT.THEN YOU PUT IN NEW BRAKE PADS IN CALIPER PUT CALIPER BACK ON SUPPORT CARRIER.REPLACE WITH NEW BOLTS USE LOCK TIGHT THEN TORQUE BOLTS TO 26 FT LBS.MAKE SURE MASTER CYLINDER COVER IN PLACE.WHEN YOU FINISH REPLACING BOTH FRONT BRAKE PADS PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO SEAT BRAKE SHOES AGAINST BRAKE ROTORS SO YOU WILL HAVE FIRM BRAKES WHEN YOU APPLY THEM. THEN CHECK YOUR BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IN MASTER CYLINDER MAKE SURE ITS NOT LOW. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FIRM BRAKES BEFORE DRIVING.IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS CHANGING FRONT BRAKE PADS YOU CAN GO TO ANY AUTO PARTS STORE AND BUY A HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL.

350z Rotors need to be cut at only 10K miles

Your rotors should be fine but it also depends on who turned the rotors and how they were done.Considering the dealer replaced the pads they probably used a metallic pad which have been known to be a noisy .Id suggest you have a repair shop resurface your rotors again and install some ceramic brake pads.

Repeated warping of front brake rotors. Have replace rotors 3 times with both Chrysler OEM and aftermarket. Replace calipers, ceramic pads, etc. Still warps rotors in less than 5000 miles.

do you do a lot of hills work?if so use the gears ,ifdown hill not the brakes if it is auto then slip it down i gear . make sure your rear brakes are adjusted regularly, but for the main part i would think it is the driver that is the problem, you may get an occasional faulty rotor but not three sets, over heating is the cause of your problem.dont missunderstand me chrysler brakes arent anything special but they arenot that bad , slow down

I need to know how to replace front break pads on a 1999 audi A6 2.8 quatto

www.ehow.com/how_4819517_change-pads-rotors-audi-quattro.html

go to this web site and it will walk you through how to change your pad.
its good ideas to also have your rotor turn, will help reduce any vibration and the new pad will last allot longer.

www.helium.com/items/1359058-how-to-bleed-brakes-abs

go to this site to bleed your brakes, only if had to open a bleed valve to release the caliper pressure to push the piston back in.

Replaced front pads and rotors on my wifes 2005 ford escape,6 months ago and they were fine for about a month ,they started making noises again and now the rotors feel warped again,i noticed when i had to...

POSSIBLY CHEAP PAD'S AND ROTORS WARPED FROM EXTREME HEAT EITHER FROM PADS OR HARD STOPS FREQUENTLY. I SUGGEST IF MONEY IS A PROBLEM GO TO THE DEALER AND GET MOTORCAFT PADS,A BIT CHEAPER THAN PREMIUM AND IF ROTORS ARE TOO THIN REPLACED THEM. ROTORS WILL GET WARPED AGAIN IF TOO THIN. HAVE A REPUTABLE SHOP DO A SLOW CUT,NOT FAST CUT ON ROTORS. SERIOUSLY,VEHICLE'S THESE DAY'S DO NOT WORK WELL WITH AFTERMARKET PART'S. FORD HAD DESIGNED THIER BRAKE SYSTEM TO EUROPE'S DESIGN TO OPERATE A CERTAIN WAY AND ABILITY. IT WILL BE COMPROMISED WITH AFTERMARKET PARTS. LOOK FOR SPECIALS AT DEALERSHIP, CHEAPER THAN YOU THINK FOR A BRAKE JOB THESE DAY'S WITH A WARRANTY ON THE JOB!

In 2004 Impala, do I have rotor or drums?

The best way to answer you question is to tell you to take the vehicle to your nearest dealer and inquire with the parts dept. I can tell you that on the ffront of your car you have rotors and the brake used on the front is called a pad. Also your vehicle does not have a separate parking brake. It is the same as the regular rear brake no matter which type of brakes you have on the back.

I have a 2008 Honda LXP purchased Novemebr 2008. It has 21000 miles on the clock. From and since 15,000 miles I heard a grinding sound when I applied the brakes after the car was stationary for over 10...

from my experience its sounds like ur front rotors may need resurfaceing...if ur doing that...may as well replace the brakes on the front as well...sometimes glazed front brake pads may make a sound but never heard of it as a grind, usually its a squeal...have ur dealer check ur rotors for hot spots in which u would need them replaced if they are overheated..also check the front pads for cracked brake pad material

2005 Dodge Durango Front Brake Squeal

Did you buy factory pads or get cheap aftermarket pads? If aftermarket did you get the ceramic? The cheap aftermarket ones tend to squeal pretty bad. Like the last comment on here, you should have your rotors turned whenever you change the pads.
