NOX is usually something like an EGR Valve or engine overheating,at least in the inspection lane.
I don't have the code, but you can see if the Egr is working and pull it off to make sure the passages are clean.
Going to inspection on a cool day helps, and don't sit there idling, shut it off.

The vehicle has a new battery and alternator on it but the battery light still stays on the dashboard.Any ideas please...

The battery light is a "check engine" light. This means that one or more of your oxygen sensors failed. If you take your vehicle in to Parts Source, you can get a free diagnostic reading to get the trouble code. Then ask a mechanic or ask Canadian Tire or the like what the trouble code means. Having this light on means that your sensors are detecting emmissions.

Failed emmissions codes 0400-0443-0300

P0300 Random Misfire, means any cylinder at anytime.

P0400 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow. EGR passages are full of carbon
clean passages and misfires may go away

P0443 Evaporative Emission Purge Control Valve circuit.

now just because a code is present doesn't mean a part/sensor is bad, just where to look and to test.

Saturn 2000 SC1 failed emission test high NOX, put new spak plug & wires, new air filter, changed oil and added injector cleaner to tank, anything else I should do to pass the Emission test. Thanks

I'd change fuel filter, get it low on fuel. Add a bottle of rite aid 100% rubbing alcohol. Nothing fancy. Nothing scented or colored.

Add it and fill up your tank of gas.

I've done this with old cars and trucks.

Most recent was my 77 for highboy. Emmissions guy said it's emmissions were lower then most cars he saw! Let alone and old crappy ford.

If it were my car I'd drive it hard the whole way there. This may or maynot break loose carbon buildup in your cats, which will also help. By drive hard I mean higher Rpm then usuall. Don't race it, or drive dangerous. Just trying to get *** much pressure buildup in the exhaust to knock some of that **** out of there.

( been building cars for 10 years daily. You'd be suprised what little things will do to help) goodluck to you.

High Nox levels on emmission test

here are the possible causes of high nox levels, Misfire condition
Malfunctioning or improperly adjusted EGR valve
Failed oxygen sensor
Leak in exhaust tubing upstream of converter
Excessive carbon deposits in combustion chamber
Improper spark advance
Blocked coolant passage
Overly lean air-fuel mixture
Damaged cold air duct
Failed or malfunctioning catalytic converter
Corroded or damaged engine sensor electrical connections.the best advice is to take it to a emission specialist to check it out! good-luck!

My '95 Skylark just misserably failed the emmissions test for Jefferson countyco. The worst is my co emmissions which were almost 1300% of normal. I'm trying to figure out if there are any minor...

hi there are a few things that will help, spark plugs is a major one, airfilter will help , get the throttle checked out, it could be stuck open to far than what it should be, get some redx ( or what ever the equivalent is there) and get the injectors clean, other than that the rest are major jobs...hope this helps please vote thanks

How to lower emmissions at 15 mph

Corolla with 1.6 Liter or 1.8 Liter usually fail for NOx on the emmisions test. This is mainly due to a catalytic convertor not workign sufficiently. Also it may be a good time to tune it up also.

1986 300zx failing low speed NOx emissions test in Texas. Changed cat converter and egr contol valve. What should I look at next? All other checks are OK

these cars are known to have injector failures and that would make you fail a emmission test easily. also i would reccomend looking at your oxygen sensor.
