Question about Chevrolet C3500

1 Answer

1999 K3500 7.4 genVI wont start. Fresh motor, built myself. New coil, dist, cap, rotor, wires, etc. Ran fine for one day then died while driving. Cranks but will not run. I verified fuel pres at rail 55 psi, spark at plug, comp is good. Re-checked all timing, verifing comp stroke TDC and wires to correct location, tried moving dist 1 tooth each way. Verified all sensors to be conected. Plugged in to Mac tools Mentor and get no fault codes. did relearn of timing, etc. Still cranks will not start, occassional pop back in intake or out exhaust. pugs wet with fuel. rerplaced plugs again still no run. AC Delco double platniums at .060 gap. Service engine soon light is on. 3 full time professional mechanics in my family and none have been able to solve the problem.

Just a thought, remove valve covers and check lifter action, also check compression

Compression is good. I did a leak down and all was good. New cam zz502 GM performance cam. replaced everything except ign module located next to coil on same bracket. New distributor. High end cap, rotor and wires. Remember it ran one day and then cut out and died the next time I drove it..

maybe try a fresh fuel supply?? could be contaminated, when you get it running let me know what it was, now i am really curious, could be flooding itself, but now i'm guessing

I will work on it tonight. Called and got another new distibutor, going to warranty it and the spark plugs out. I also plan to hook up a fuel injection flusher and run some BG 44K through it. This will insure the injectors are clean and verify if it is contaminated fuel.

Warranty distributor had no effect. A closer look at the quality of spark made use grab a stock coil/module on the bracket off another truck in the shop. Fired right up! I guess SUMMIT will be getting a call. Replaced the coil from a local parts house, fires up everytime now. New issue still related I believe. Can not get cam ****** to 0*. The closest I can get it is -2*. If I advance the dist one tooth, I can't get it back below 18* with it rotated to the max the other way. Timing chain was set up with 0 degs on the cam. Replaced crank angle sensor , no effect. This is crazy!!!!

My 1993 dodge spirit won't start. ran fine until engine died going down hiway. changed module in distributer. still won't start. getting fire from coil but not from distributer. any tips helpful.

I would think a dist. cap and a rotor button. By what you describe, the fire is getting to the distributor but not going to the plug wires.

Not getting any spark out of my plug wires already replaced coil, main relay, and ignition module. could it bemy rotar or distrbut

The Honda system uses a coil that mounts inside the dist, right ?
If you can check voltage output at the coil tower with the cap off you can find out if the coil is firing. If it is, then yes the rotor could be the problem. The voltage has to go thru the cap to the center of the rotor then to each plug terminal. The spark can jump thru the rotor and ground thru the dist shaft.

I have a 1999 chevy suburban 5.7 Vortech witch is starting to drive me nuts. The spark plug wires, and all around the ignition coil is arching. With this said the distributor, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and...

Assuming none of the wires are crossed, AND you replaced the cap rotor wires with quality replacements (meaning AC Delco) then you may have a bad coil. Remove coil from dist cap if HEI and look for any signs of arcing such as blackened areas.

Not getting fire to plug wires. I have replaced coil pack, module, dist pickup, and cap. I have tested and have fire to dist but nothing coming out. This is an 86 2.8 comanche 4x4 w/ 4 barrel Holley carb...

You have spark on the coil wire but not coming from the cap. You replaced the cap right. Did you replace the rotor too. Sometimes the rotor burn in the center and the spark goes right thru it in to the distributor shaft.

Three days ago i had to remove the intake manifold on my 1994 gmc yukon 5.7 liter had to remove throttle body and dist have replaced along with dist cap, rotor and coil the truck ran fine but now won't...

Check to make sure the coil wire is secured to the distributor cap and rotor.
Also check that the rotor is not cracked (even if new) and that the spark plugs are not loose - wires are not loose, frayed etc.
Also, make sure all connections on the battery, ground at chassi, and positive on starter are in good repair as well.
Please, let me know if you need further assistance.

Saab 900i 1992 model won't Start

sounds like a fuel problem check for spark and try to get the car running on ehter (aerosol starting fluid) spray it into the air intake (makesure not to spray the filter just take it out) and have a helping hand turn the key if the car runs, then its a fuel problem prbly the fuel pump, NOTE: When running only on ether the car will sound very funny this is normal, IF the car wont start problems are elsewhere such as a timing belt slipping, no spark, no compression, Bad coil, weak starter, bad valve ect etc HOPETHIS HELPS feel free to e-mail me at
