Question about Kia Optima

1 Answer

I have a 2001 kia optima the passenger side door light was staying on and the dashboard light for door open was staying on, but it seemed to be driving fine, until yesterday I went to start it up and there was no power at all. no dash lights, no ding ding, I had my brother check the battery and it is fully charged. Someone said that it could be a door jamb switch. Is this what it could be? if so, do you know around how much the part costs?

To get the side door light to go off you can normally spray the area around the latch in the door liberally with WD40 or similar spray lubricant. If you can start the car and there's no power then the problem is not likely to be related to the electrical system in your car or the door jamb switch. Look for a hole or leak in the air hoses between the air filter box and the motor. Try taking the air filter completely out to see if it runs better (if it runs better buy a new filter). Look very carefully for a hole or soft spot on the rubber hoses between the PCV valve and the motor. If this is not the problem you may just need a tuneup with new plugs, wires and possibly replacement to coil pack modules.

the car won't start at all and the battery is not dead, there is no power to any of the dash lights or door chimes, there is just nothing. could it be electrical?

Yes, it sounds like you have a loose ground cable from the battery to the car frame (or a very loose terminal connection on the battery). I assume you have side posts that are tight? Also, can you get the headlights to work when you turn them on? If you have the car in park it should be lighting up like a Christmas tree on the dash unless your battery is not properly connected and grounded.

The only other possiblity is a bad plastic connecter where the accessories attach to the main wire going to the car battery.

If the headlights work, but nothing when you turn the key, you may need to find the main fuses and replace the relay for the starter. I am not certain this would also keep lights from coming on in the dash though... that sounds like the battery just isn't connected properly.

everything on the battery is tight, no lights at all come on

I think that the person who told you the battery was good was "wrong" OR the battery cable that connects to the frame of the car (the black ground cable) is broken, loose, extremely corroded and green looking OR it is bolted to the frame where there is too much oil or rust. The second possiblity is that there is a bad "connector" that goes from the battery's red cable to the wiring harness for the car. A car battery can be charged and still have a "short" in the battery. In this case you might be able to "jump start" the car by attaching the jumper cables from another car to the battery terminals on your car. I would try that first to rule out a junk battery.

Where is the fuel pump fuse on a 2002 kia optima located

Most Kia cars have fuse boxes that are well labelled. One is located in the engine bay. The other is in the passenger compartment, under the dashboard, either driver's side or passenger side. Check the fuel pump relay if you have confirmed that your fuel pump is not receiving +12V at the connector end. Some models have the relay as part of the main relay. Some have individual relays. These relays are located nearest to the ECU behind center console, screwed to the posts at the sides of the console.

2001 Kia Optima. My daughter bought the car with

Did she get a new door or one from a salvage yard? If new did they move her window mtr over to the new door? If salvage they may not have bothered to change out- or you may also check that the wires that go from the door post to the door are hooked up or not worn thru from the door being damaged before.

I am currently having the same problem. It strikes me odd that there are so many with the same problem. This seems to be a safety issue as well. If I need to get out of my car quickly and can't because I accidently locked the doors while inside. You would think there would be a recall on something this serious.
