You will want to look for a pinhole or small melted rubbery area on the hoses between the PCV valve on the crankcase and the back of the motor. Any hole in that hose will give a reading "lean bank 1" and "lean bank 2" and cause the car to not idle properly (leading to car stalling at a stop). Also, if you are able to remove those parts and inspect them and find nothing wrong, you will want to check the air intake tunnel between the air filter and the motor. Any leaks in that will also cause hard starts and a rough idle.

Now you can go to a real repair shop and have it properly diagnosed and repaired.
How much help and education did you gain at the auto parts store? I'm glad you went there for the experience and weren't sold parts you didn't need.

Any codes you got,don't tell you what is wrong or needs to be replaced.
That is up to the person working on your vehicle to determine.

The codes you got are most likely Oxygen Sensors Codes.
They may be okey,something else may be driving them out of range.

Make sure you take the mechanic who will be working on your vehicle for a ride of 10 miles or more to duplicate the issues ,and don't just leave your car and they say they'll look at it.

2007 Hyundai Entourage codes P2187, PP0174,P2189,P2195,P2270,P2272

I've come across these codes before. In almost every case there was an air leak in the intake air hose (hose between the engine air filter & the throttle body). Inspect this hose & tubes attached to it. This is especially true when the lean code includes the comment 'at idle'
P2187 - System too lean at idle Bank 1
P0174 - System too lean Bank 2
P2189 - System too lean at idle Bank 2
P2195 = HO2S Signal Biased/Stuck Lean (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P2270 = HO2S Signal Stuck Lean (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P2272 = HO2S Signal Stuck Lean (Bank 2 Sensor 2)

P2187 & P2189 = In order to provide the best possible combination of drivability, fuel economy and emission control, the PCM uses a closed loop air/fuel metering system. The PCM monitors the HO2S signal voltage and adjusts fuel delivery based in closed loop fuel control. Changes in fuel delivery will be indicated by the long-term and the short-term fuel trim values. The ideal fuel trim value is around 0%. The PCM will add fuel when the HO2S signal is indicating a lean condition. Additional fuel is indicated by fuel trim values that are above 0%. The PCM will reduce fuel when the HO2S signal is indicating a rich condition. Reduction in fuel is indicated by fuel trim values that are below 0%. The DTC relevant to fuel trim will be set when the amount reaches excessive levels because of a lean or rich condition

What does it mean when your bank 1 n bank 2 are running lean

A lean bank 1 and 2 is indicating there is not enough fuel being injected to support proper combustion.
Leading causes can include but are not limited to......
1) low fuel pressure or plugged fuel filter.
2) vacuum leak causing lean condition.
3) air intake hose or crank case not sealed properly and bypassing the MAF sensor or the MAF sensor element is dirty.
4) wrong fuel or poor quality fuel used.
Hope this helps. If the Service Engine Soon light is illuminated, there will be fault codes associated the light. Get the vehicle scanned for free at your local Auto Zone or Advanced Auto and report back.

I have got a P0171 & P0174 engine codes on my 2001 mercury sable. What do I do to fix it.

P0171 System Too Lean Bank 1
P0172 System Too Rich Bank 1
P0173 Fuel Trim Bank 2
P0174 System Too Lean Bank 2

OK, that's a partial list of codes, the fuel delivery is controlled by the oxygen sensors, so it's possible that something in that area could be causing your problem.

However, it could also be clogged fuel injectors that can't deliver enough fuel to the cylinders compared to the air that is pulled into the engine.

Try some fuel injector cleaner for that poured into the gas tank.

How does it run?
Does it miss at all?

I keep getting a p0171 and p0175 codes from the scanner (auto x-ray)(meaning i'm lean in bank 1 and too rich in bank 2). fuel injector cleaner didn't help really help. so should i replace the upstream O2...

p0171, p0175 = system too lean (usually related to MAF Sensor) this means that the Air Flow Sensor is telling the computer that much less air is entering the engine than actually is. but first check for vacuum leaks in hoses and also pcv hose. the maf sensor may just need cleaned. any auto parts store will have maf sensor spray, follow directions on can. or you can use electrical spray also. as for the 02 sensors its possible. check or clean maf sensor first.

remove maf sensor and check for air filter debris on it, gently blow off debris taking care not to damamge the wires on the sensor. also check forvaccum leaks as this can cause a lean condition
