Question about 1997 Mazda 626

1 Answer

The red light at the bottom of the rpm meter is on. It looks like a faucet. Is this oil or water light? I have a new engine as of yesterday. It was overheating and the valve compression was bad. The orice of a new engine was not much more. This one supposed to have 40,000 miles on it.

That red light is for water, have it check out right away or this engine will get damage.

High temp low oil pressure light comes on after driving for a few minutes, then off when engine at driving rpm. At stop light (idle or low rpm) light comes back on. Normal driving it goes out.

You need to find out why you have low oil pressure. It is normal that as engine rpm's increase, the oil pressure will rise- the oil pump is moving oil faster. Even though your light goes out, you could still have critically low oil pressure. There should be sufficient pressure at idle to keep the light off. The light will come on when your oil pressure is almost nil- I believe for some it's as low as 8 psi. Normally, oil pressure at idle is specified anywhere from 15 to 40 psi. You would have to check specifications for your Expedition. To verify oil pressure, hook up a mechanical gauge at the oil pressure sending unit on the engine block. Check with a local shop.

The causes run from easy, simple to budget busting ruin. Low oil level, wrong grade oil, real old oil, oil leaks, internal oil leaks, worn oil pump, worn crankshaft bearings. It was pretty common on older very high mileage cars to have a fluttering oil light at stops and idle. It was time for a rebuild, or time to look for another car.

2006 Cobalt - Brown thick sludge on dipstick

If the oil level (checked with the dipstick) is VERY high, and the oi on the dipstick looks like chocolate milk (or just after running, foamy chocolate milk), this usually means either the head gasket is blown, or the cylinder head or the engine block is cracked, allowing the engine coolant to mix with the engine oil.

2005 Jaguar s-Type Couple of weeks ago red light came on to indicate engine coolant low. Went by Goodyear and they put in anti freeze. Yesterday and today, the red light and same message are coming on...

You are leaking fluid. Check to see that the hoses don't have residual fluid on them indicating a leak. Also check to see if your water pump isn't leaking out the seal. Another thing to check is the oil dip stick. Make sure the oil looks normal and not watery indicating a crack in the block. These are only a couple of things I would start with.

I have had the "service

ok you need to check the oil if its low [ and it probily is] add oil you are leaking oil. this could be 2 things you said it looked like it was comeing from the oil filter, this my be the case also you may have a oil sending unit right next to the oil filter that has gone bad its a small looking plug with 2 or 3 wires comeing from it. they are inexpensive and easy to replace with a deepwell sockett. while you are under there looking try to turn the oil filter by hand to see if its loose if it is you may have to replace or just tighten it. with some cars when they run low on oil a rmp sensor tells the car not to turn at a high rate because you dont have enough oil in it. this is why it will restart because the oil will rest or pool at the bottom of engen so when you first start it the oil is splashed around telling everything all is good but after you run a few minutes the oil is spread out or thined out and the sensor tell the car to limit the rpm so you dont blow the engen. i hope this helps you

What is the blue symbol on the panel it look like water on the bottom

The blue symbol on the panel it look like water on the bottom is the "cold engine" warning lamp. If the blue water lamp lights on the dashboard panel do not raise the engine speed too much! Only under 2000 rpm, until the blue water lamp will turn off.
