Hi! Have you replaced the automatic transmission fluid lately? If the fluid is burnt issues like this occurs. Please try replacing the fluid first and see how it goes. Hope this helps and have a good one!

The best idea is to scan the Engine Control Module (ECM) memory for stocked faults (Diagnostic Trouble Codes - DTC), using a diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about damaged components (e.g. ignition coils, injectors, various engine sensors, oxygen sensors, ...). Then the ECM memory can be accessed and erased by errors (ECM reset), after bad pieces replacement.

How many miles on it? Coil-over-plugs and spark plugs may need changed. They can throw electrical interference which can put you in Fail-Safe mode. Happened to me.
If car has over 70K, change the Coil-over plugs and spark plugs. Don't forget to change a fuel filter every 30K also.

Try the fuel filter. If you have had the plugs, wires changed it may be the fuel filter.

Engine turns but won't start

What year is the focus, And have you checked the ford recalls on the car? I know that when I owned my focus there was a recall with the fuel pump in the tank and i had somewhat of the same problem myself. If your only getting gas to only ONE spark plug, your issue probably lies somewhere in your fuel delivery system (i.e. Fuel pump, fuel filter etc. etc.). Which would also describe the " It stalls out then the engine won't start for along time again.". Let me know, I'll keep trying to troubleshoot with you. Good luck!
