SOURCE: how do i replace the wiring harness in a 94 dodge

You may not be able to replace the harness 1. it most likely not even available 2. its too expensive and 3. the labor involved would be huge. You will need to find it and repair it. it always helps to tell what engine/ trans you have, the wiring diagrams are different. The white wire will be power and it comes from the fuel pump relay (drivers strut tower, inner relay) take a test light and put one lead on positive battery terminal, now disconnect the relay and connect test light to the white wire, now disconnect the fuel pump and if the light is on, there is a short, and you will need to follow the harness and wiggle it until the light flickers, then you may find the short.

I have a 1991 dodge Shadow convertible 2.5 auto. I'm getting just about 18 volts from my charging system. Which I'm sure is causing my temp sensor to supply too much fuel when cold I have a very rich fuel...

hi.
18 volts is to much for a charging system, it should be abou 15v max.
the voltage regulator is almost certainly the problem and they are not servicable at all. the oly option is to replace it.
i don't know the dodge shadow, but on all modern cars with alternator charging system that i have dealt with, the regulator is built into the alternator itself rather than being a separate unit.

it should be dealt with fairly quickly, as this level of overcharging could cause serious problems with the rest of the electrical system

Broker wire to my O2 sensor

Try to trace the white wire that leads to the o2 sensor by unwrapping the harness that is in the vicinity of the o2 sensor. Try to fiind the wire that way. That's the way an electrical shop would do it. Resplice the wires together. You've done most of the hard work. Good luck to you. Tprev.gif next.gif --- Oxygen (O2) Sensor OPERATION All Fuel Systems Fig. 1: A standard oxygen (O2) sensor, as shown, is used in all fuel injection system covered in this manual 86734gb4.gif
Fig. 2: On non-turbocharged engines, the oxygen sensor (arrow) is mounted in the exhaust manifold 86734p07.jpg
The oxygen (O2) sensor is a device which produces an electrical voltage when exposed to the oxygen present in the exhaust gases. The sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold or turbocharger outlet and is electrically heated internally for faster switching when the engine is running. When there is a large amount of oxygen present (lean mixture), the sensor produces a low voltage. When there is a lesser amount present (rich mixture) it produces a higher voltage. By monitoring the oxygen content and converting it to electrical voltage, the sensor acts as a rich-lean switch. The voltage is transmitted to the engine controller which changes the fuel injector's pulse width. The injector changes the mixture.

Where is the oxygen sensor located at on a 94 shadow

It is screwed into the exhaust pipe, closer to the converter, than the engine. Will be at least two. One maybe screwed into the converter. Need to know which one, your shop thought was bad.

89 dodge shadow. hard start. normal idle cold, fast idle warm. sometimes it wont start until i hear fuel pump activate.

Hello,
The car may be hard to start because it may need a normal tune-up. If the spark plugs are pretty used, they will slowly stop burning as much fuel because the spark slowly gets lesser and lesser. On a cold day the fuel is harder to ignite with a small amount of spark.
Normal idle when its cold means that your cars idle is probably too high. If you lower the idle, the choke on a cold day will keep the idle a little higher until the motor warms and then it will kick back off. If the idle is too high, it will run very rich, smothering itself with fuel, and causing the idle to stay low. When the car warms, its creating better spark when its warm, and with the idle being too high its running at a fast idle.
The car wont start sometimes can be the cause of a few things. If the ground is bad on the fuel pump, it wont make a good connection sometimes for when you turn the key on, the fuel pump dont pump the fuel to the engine. Another one can be that your accessory switch can be loose going to the fuel pump. I think its your ground though. Good luck! Hope this helps.
Have a nice day. -Steve

My shadow89 is consuming a lot gasoline

Your car is running too rich, you need to lean it out so there is not so much fuel being burnt. You will also notice an acceleration increase also once you do that..
Also it may need a tune-up, you may not be burning all the gas that passes past the spark plugs causing it to compensate for what the motor needs to run.
Hope this helps! -Steve
