Yes, it's in the control module. The module can be found on the drivers side frame rail, just behind the front door, there's a cover over this Fuel Pump Control Module, next to the evaporator canister.
BTW the wire connectors to the pump located right below the drivers door that are right behind the wheels so they get rock damage, it's a known design error, so check the wires, they might be broken.

thanks for the info but is it possible to replace the fp relay only or the complete unit module
with the info that I got the relay is inside the module not replaceable by it self?
    thanks

The entire module is practically just the relay and some minor stuff so yes, you must replace it all.

sorry, but if I get a ground to the fuel pump, it works does this means that the ecu is not giving the signal to the pump for it to work or is that some thing else in the middle?

  • Azrael SRL Aug 03, 2010

No, the ECU is sending the signal, the problem is that you have a break in the grounding circuit - check it with an ohmmeter. You most likely have a corroded connection.

got 4 wires on the fuel pump
    wh, br-wh, pk-bk,bk
correct me if I am wrong
wh,and pk-bk are for the gauge,wh is power direct from the ifs and bk is ground?
got power and ground still does not work only if I give ground on the br-wh with a tester the pump works?
should work as soon as the key is on with the power wh and the bk ground?
after a few times giving ground on br-wh the starter stays inop
    help
    thanks

  • Azrael SRL Aug 03, 2010

Black is the ground, black and pink is + from ignition, white is fuel level sensor, white and brown the alarm fuel sensor. To find which is which precisely it's easy: just use an ohmmeter to identify them.

Yes, the pump should start immediately you turn the key. Simple test: take it out of the tank and connect it directly to a battery - if it doesn't work flawlessly then replace it; if it does then the wiring is at fault; if the wiring is ok then the module is defective.

yes the pump is fine from what I can see the ground is direct to the chassis , as well as the power from the IFS
I got ground and power so the only thing its the bcm or pcm?
but if I have ground and power when ignition its on why does'n it work ,shouldn't the pump go on if connected to the harness out of the tank? only if I give ground to br-wh wire alarm for fuel?
and if I do it to long the starter will not work if I try to crank it?
sorry for all the questions thanks for the help

  • Azrael SRL Aug 04, 2010

Yes, it appears that is something i wrong in the module. For a better troubleshooting you must have the codes read.

Did you check B+ voltage an ground to fuel pump before you replaced it ? Did you look at a wiring diagram to see what controls the fuel pump ? There is a fuel pump relay in the central junction box , an there is the inertia fuel cut off switch , an then there is the biggest problem on this ford , the fuel pump driver module. Why is it not getting fuel?

What make vehicle do you have ? Some makes incorporate a FPDM - fuel pump driver module . Fords have a inertia fuel cut off switch. I suggest you go to youtube an check out some basic electrical trouble shooting videos an then go to www.bbbind.com for a wiring diagram an check the fuel pump electrical circuit . Here is a video testing a GM fuel pump circuit . just for instance . GM Fuel Pump Relay Testing If you want to work on modern vehicles you really need to lean basic testing procedures . New fuel pump and secondary fuel mod and still won't staart ( no fuel )

Not sure what secondary fuel mod you are posting about, can you explain what this is ?
Have you checked the fuel inertia switch in the passenger side kick panel ?
Is this a 2004 New Body style or 2004 Heritage / Lightning ?
If it is a New body style, have you checked / replaced the fuel pump driver module ? This is on the cross member by the spare tire, and some times they get corroded and crack.

The fuel pump is powered from the Fuel pump relay ( non serviceable in the Cab fuse panel ) to the fuel inertia switch to the fuel pump driver module. The PCM is also connected to the fuel pump driver module
The fuel pump relay normally open contact is powered by Fuse #34 ( this fuse also feeds the PCM ). The fuel pump relay coil is powered by the PCM power relay.
If you are testing and the truck has not started, the PCM will shut off the Fuel pump after 5 seconds ( 8 ? ) of not having started. The only way to clear this is to have the truck start, or disconnect the battery.
Have you tested the fuel pressure on the fuel rail ?

The fuel pump relay is burried under the dash. The new one will help you find the old one. It is bigger than e regular relay.
It is on the drivers side Ithink.
If you don't hear the pump when you turn the key it will never start. All of those relays fail because these cars outlast them.

Defective fuel guage on a 2005 GTO.How to repair it. Gas guage reads lOne quarter empty, when gas tank is full.

What you might have to do is check the gauges with a scanner. Not all scanners have this ability. The dealerships scanner can go into your body control module and work the gauges and if they work with the scanner then you can eliminate the gauge itself. The usual problem is with the fuel sending unit which incorporates the level sensor, pressure regulator, and the pump itself. So these are some of your options.Good luck.
