Question about Audi 80

Open Question

The car is Audi 80 b4 TDI 66kw from 1994, the problem is: when the gears are shifted in lower presure for example: into 3 rd gear while driving 35 to 45 km/h, into 4th gear while driving 60 to 65 km/h and 5th gear from 70 to 75 or 80, the shift stick and the gas pedal starts to shake. When I build up some momentum some speed it stops. Thank you!!

Any check engine lights? If not could still be just a Mass Air flow running on minimum and won't make the Check engine come on or something more major like the wastegate valve on the turbo, and or the vacuum or or the vanes in the turbo seizing.
Any odd noises like air flowing could be a disconnected turbo pipe also.
You can try unplugging the mass air flow sensor and try it like that. If it runs better (not perfect) it could be just that. If it does let me know and I'll tell you what to do.

SOURCE: Clunking or slipping in transmission or rear end while on highway

This might be a valve timing offset, that when you change gear your valves become ofset from your pistons and they might hit, or it might also be your crankshaft hitting your oil pan. either wich way this might be a serious problem.

Has anyone change the transmission fluid and used anything other than Honda ATF-Z1. If so, have the fluid/filter changed in this car and use only Honda Fluid. This is the only fluid that you can use in a Honda. Even if you have used the correct fluid an fluid/filter change may help. If that is not the case then I suggest you seek out a trusted professional.

Common problem..we keep ours in drive..4th when traveling in hilly areas because tranny keeps shifting into overdrive...5th. I know they should not shift like this but if you try that it will solve your shifting problem without spending hard earned dollars. :) hope that helps.

My audi 80 b4 cbt transmission drives well but when it goes beyond 80kmph,the gear suddenly starts from the 3rd speed when you stop and start moving all over again.

Hello George!

An Audi 80 likely has many miles on the clock and unless you were careful about regular transmission flushes, it may be in terminal failure.

some folks try a flush, but at this point it may break so much loose junk in the tranny as to simply cause the unit to fail completely. Bad news either way, but I would try a complete flush (not just drop the pan) and see what happens. Be prepared to walk home ??.

all the best.

Hi there.
Well because its a auto box you could have a band or pump problem which is in the gear box and is bathed in auto matic fluid oil and that could be your problem as the bands do wear down fast on a lot of cars and BMW with there power that could be you.
So take it to a auto box people and get it checked out.

My car has trouble shifting uphill and in low gears

When a car is going uphill, it has to use more power to get up the hill. Most automatic transmission cars will automatically detect this, and shift into a lower gear to get the car up the hill easier. As you get to the top or let off the gas, the car should than shift into a higher gear to maximize fuel efficiency. What does your transmission seem to do? Not want to go into a lower gear, are the RPMs jumping up and down before it shifts?

My 2004 Audi A6 tdi can only get up to 2nd gear in auto or tiptronic. Auto gearbox garage said it is the engine - VW/Audi garage said engine is ok. No fault codes or dash warnings. was on the motorway...

Is it not shifting into third gear (meaning you're at redline and the car won't shift), or is there not enough power to get the car going fast enough to warrant going into third gear? Have you checked to see if the car is in limp mode?
