SOURCE: Speedometer Needle for Hyundai 2004 Accent

If your transmission fluid level is okay, then you need a new speedometer cable. Its not terribly difficult to replace, but it does require you to pull the instrument cluster. A local Hyundai dealership might be willing to photocopy the specific speedometer cable replacement instructions out of the 2004 Accent shop manual.

About the only way is to diassemble it, but it sounds like it's not wrth doing. Your speedometer is having some real malfunction issues anyway. Might as well get a new one (or used). If you did get the needle to the right place, it's just going to end up in the wrong one again.

1995 eclipse speedometer not working

Its either your speedometer or your speedometer cable.
If it's these you will have to either have your speedometer gauge rebuilt or buy a whole new unit because they have to be re- calibrated. And if it's your speedometer cable I would also have a mechanic fix it. The cable is cheap but the gauges you can't fix on your own. So most places rebuild them and it's around $90-180.00 to rebuild them and they have to take the whole cluster gauges out all of them in the unit and they will usually replace burned out bulbs and fix the plastic gears in the gauges these are what usually fails before the speedometer cable.
Good Luck!

Remove the speedometer cable and manually turn the cable inside the covering. If the cable turns then the problem is in the transmission. There is a small gear where the cable connects inside the transmission that wears out. Once it does you lose the speedometer. Have this gear replaced or replace it yourself and it should resolve your problem.

Dash light on speedometer gauge not lighting up 1977 silverado

There is a printed circuit on the back of the instrument panel. They start falling apart from years of heat. You could try untwisting the bulb there and replacing it first to see if it will come back on, but if you need to take that panel out to get in there remember to loosen the speedometer cable to the trany so it will slide through the firewall to give you access to the back of the panel. If the printer circuit is a problem, if you are real careful, you can take a nail or a pick tool and carefully place one copper lead on one side and the other on the opposite side and it will work, but test it first before reinstalling by plugging up the harness and turning on the ligts...hope this helps.

You definitely don't need a kickdown cable, the kickdown is for the auto transmission, you may just need a new gauge cluster. also the cable you got from autozone could be a universal cable thats why it doesn't look the same, or it could just be a wrong cable, try napa.
