Question about 1988 Chevrolet Corvette

1 Answer

Lights wont rotate

Eratic rotation of light pods , sometimes they only go 1/2 way , sometimes one will go full on and the other partial , they always close with no problem
both lights became a problem at the exact same time
prior to this there was no problem or indication that there may be a light motor problem
i am finding it difficult to believe it is a motor problem on both headlights or could they fail at the exact same time
any troubleshooting i can do before i purchase new motors
how can i be certain it is the motors

Actually I just did this last week. There are three little pellets in each motor underneath the gear. what happens is over time they disintegrate and start well stop rolling like normal til not quite at all. They are not bad to do with some basic mechanical skill, and can be purchased relatively inexpensively on the auction site everyone knows (ebay). Even though it sounds like a good idea dont go with metal ones stick to the plastic ones if not you could tear up your motor and those are not cheap at all. Fix yours while theyre still good.

I pull off tail light assembly took 4 screws out, but assembly wont came apart, is there a trick to it???

You probably don't need to take the assembly apart. The sockets holding the bulbs are probably visible. Just take the bulb holder and rotate it firmly about 1/4 turn counter clockwise, and it should come out of the assembly. Remove the burned out bulb, insert the replacement, check that it works, then put the holder back into the tail light assembly, rotating it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in.

Traction control light is on d car is making loud noice wont move

The traction control will signal when there is a difference in speed of wheel rotation from one side to the other. Sometimes an Emergency brake can come apart inside the drum and jam a wheel.

A worse case condition would be a stripped differential gear on the axle shaft. The wheel sensors may pick up the difference in rotation of the remaining shattered parts.

Only a few things to do to see how bad stuff is. Elevate both rear wheels, put transmission in neutral and try to move rear wheels. If 1 does not move, it is either jammed inside the differential or jammed
out in the brake drum.

Try getting jammed side brake drum off. If still jammed, the differential cover needs to come off.

Diagram spark plug wiring

my guess, is you removed them and didnt mark them?
the firing order?
what engine, there are 5.

to do this , one need to know 5 things.
2.5L, 2.8L, 4.0L and 5.2/5.9L engine displacements.
the distributor rotation direction CCW, or CW
and last the firing order, sometimes marked clearly on the intake manifold.
you must now where #1 cylinder is (always most front)
1989-98 2.5L Engine firing order: 1-3-4-2 Distributor rotation: Clockwise
2.8L Engine firing order: 1-2-3-4-5-6 Distributor rotation: Clockwise
4.0L Engine firing order: 1-5-3-6-2-4 Distributor rotation: Clockwise
5.2L and 5.9L Engine firing order: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 Distributor rotation: Clockwise
on a v6/v8 one cylinder is more forward. this is #1, look carefully.

I own a 1999 Buick Regal GSE with 94K miles. I recently noticed that my dashboard lights sometimes come on, and sometimes don't. Sometimes, during the day, if my dashboard lights are on, and I pull out...

In the 99 Regal, the headlamp switch is also the dimmer switch for the instrument cluster.
With the headlights on, try rotating the switch to bring up the "nighttime" intensity.
If the headlight switch has a pre-set dimming function for the instrument cluster lighting (in other words, not adjustible by rotating the knob), then
replacement of the headlight switch would be the only way to fix the instrument cluster lighting problem.
See Wiring Schematic below.

2006 Pacifica emergency brake problem.

The only manual adjustment for the parking brake on these is at the shoes themselves. Procedure for that is as follows:

1) Place parking brake lever in "full released" position.
2) Raise and support vehicle.
3) Remove plug in parking brake shoe support to access adjuster star-wheel.
NOTE: Through the access hole, rotate the adjuster wheel in the following direction to expand the shoes outward against the drum.
Left brake--Rotate star wheel toward rear of vehicle.
Right brake--Rotate star wheel toward front of vehicle.
4)Using an appropriate tool, turn adjuster star wheel until wheel will not rotate (dead lock).
5) Back off adjuster six detents (teeth).
6) Rotate wheel, checking for light drag. If drag is too heavy, continue to back of adjuster one detent at a time until light drag is present. Do not back off star-wheel more than 17 detents from wheel lock.
7) Install access plug.
8) Adjust opposite wheel parking brake shoes using same method.
9) Lower Vehicle.
10) Apply and release parking brake lever once to ensure proper operation of parking brakes.

These directions are directly from 2006 Pacifica factory service manual.
