12 just means the battery was disconnected within the last 50 start attempts from what I can find there are 2 types of codes for jeeps , system faults and input faults ,, the only 55, 56 I could locate were 55 = Right temperature door travel too small
56 = Right temperature door travel too large I have no idea what that means,, maybe someone whos better at jeeps could help you, sorry

SOURCE: P0456 OBD code just appeared on a 2004 Jeep Grand

That code definition is (evaporative system small leak detected). One of the most common reasons for this code is a faulty gas cap. The evap system is strictly designed to trap fuel vapors in the tank and not allow them to scape into the atmosphere. The vehicle keeps a constant vacume on the tank and when it is unable to hold that pressure it will set the code you have. Try buying a new gas cap-thats a cheap start-clear the code and see what happens. If the light comes back on you will have to bring it to a repair shop where they will tap into the Evap system and force smoke into it. They will then observe the Evap hoses and wherever it leaks smoke will be your problem.

Where are the O2 sensors on a 96 Grand Cherokee with a straight 6?

If you do not know where O2 Sensors are ,I suggest
you let a repair shop test the ones you have, before you
throw parts at it.

No OBD Codes tell you to replace anything

Look on the exhaust pipe before or in the converter
inlet, for the upstream sensor & in the converter
outlet, for the down stream or monitor sensor

Do you know where the choke is located on a 1997 Jeep Cherokee?

A 97 is fuel injected. There will be no choke on a fuel injected vehicle. code 12 is to let you know that the battery has been disconnected in the last 50 or so key cycles. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using!

I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

Jeep Cherokee 96 will idle but as soon as you give it gas it dies. Replaced the fuel pump and the code reader is not displaying any errors.

u need to have a code reader with data stream....hook that up to ur obd connector an goto data stream..... goto TPS there will b a voltage reading when the jeep is running step on the gas an check for a voltage drop..if it drops u r commanding the fuel pump to deliever less fuel when the engine needs more....if u dont have a voltage reading on ur TPS when running replace TPS (throttle position switch). if u dont have a data stream option u will nedd to bring it to a servivce station for this service

I am putting a 1994 transmission into my 1996 jeep cherokee and I have 1 plug that is posed to be like a 10 prong plug but on the 94 it is a 3 prong plug. Do they make adpters for that or what should I do?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that transmission from the 94 won't work in a 96. Probably because the 94 was for a Jeep with OBD I and your 96 has OBD II. I checked my used parts site and all that will fit is a transmission from a 96, maybe a 97.

Tp fuel pumps from same year different wireing

What you brought is an tank and unit from 1995 JGC. from 1993 till 1995 they have the same fuel pump. 96'er Jeeps start with OBD - Systems and they have other fuel pumps. You can't change the plug ins, because you may have other fuel filter in your Granny. Check filter and fuel lines if they fit with the unit you brought. If not, you need another unit from a real 96'er Jeep
