When I shut off my 99 ranger a large amount of coolant is forced into the coolant reservoir.

Check the amount of coolant in the reservoir/radiator.If there is no coolant there is nothing to heat and force through the heater core.If thats ok look for the heater control valve and check its operation, its like a gate that opens and allows hot coolant from the engine into the heater core.

Loses water from resevoir but not from radiator


So the level keeps dropping in the reservoir? If you have to keep adding coolant to the reservoir, the system is leaking or losing coolant somewhere. Have the system pressure tested to find the leak. Is the reservoir itself leaking? When the level gets low enough, first the reservoir will go dry, then the radiator level will start to drop.
Here's how the reservoir works: coolant is under pressure from the radiator cap seal. As coolant heats up from hot engine, it expands, and pressure forces the radiator cap seal up, coolant is forced into the reservoir-remember the hot mark on the reservoir? When car is shut off, coolant contracts, creating a vacuum in top of radiator. This vacuum works to suction coolant back from reservoir into the radiator, keeping the radiator topped up, and coolant should now be at the lower cold mark on the reservoir. It is a closed, sealed system. The only loss of coolant will be a very small amount of evaporation from the reservoir. If coolant level keeps dropping, there is a leak somewhere.

Can't find a water coolant reservoir tank for a 2000 ford explorer sport. Only 2001 on... what should I do?


for explorer, mercury mountiner and ford ranger are all the same and there are crossover years that any decent junkyard can cross referance for you. U-pull and pay's web site does that for you. So in other words a 2002 Ford Ranger Coolant Reservoir might be the exact same? as long as they have the same engine there are 4, 6 and 8 cyls available on most models.

if you dont see radiator cap on radiator.you pour coolant in the coolant reservoir jug until coolant level stay on full cold mark.when adding coolant to coolant reservoir jug when coolant level stop dropping stay at full cold mark.you have correct amount antifreeze in radiator.

You might have a head gasket issue still. You should not see any geyser out of the radiator with cap removed, nor continuous bubbles if you start the engine up cold. A random bubble is not a concern.

If you start it cold with radiator cap removed, you should should not have any coolant being forced out the open cap location. If you do- even a small amount when cold means there is combustion chamber pressure entering the cooling jacket, and it will not always reveal in the oil pan when the leak occurs outboard of the oil gallery locations. A continuous stream of bubbles is also an indicator. Normal thermal expanision will occur as engine heats up. If you had the small hose that tapped off of one of the heater lines, and you simply plugged it or otherwise removed it to save some money on a radiator- that in itself can be the problem- that small hose bled air out of the heater core and out of the head so there would not be a need to "burp" the system of air. If you did not have it initially, your truck did not have that hose, but you might try burping it of air to make sure you do not have a pocket of overheating in one cylinder of the engine,

Normal running pressure is 16 PSI when hot, any more than that will force coolant out of the side tank and into the reservoir. Some of that expansion is normal.

Unless you have low PH water or serious galvanic corrosion going on elsewhere in the system, you should be seeing more than 2 years of service life out of a radiator.

With a normal engine you should be able to run at idle with the cap off, and provided there is room for thermal expansion initially, you will be able to watch the flow begin as the thermostat opens. All that should happen if there is not adequate room for expansion, is the coolant simply rises and overtops the radiator cap location.

Inside your car's engine, thousands of controlled explosions called combustion events occur. These explosions are created by igniting a fuel / air mixture inside the engine. Spark plugs are used to ignite the fuel / air mixture contained in the cylinders. These explosions are converted into power through the engine while producing a large amount of heat. These high temperatures are controlled with the help of the cooling system. A cooling system consists of a water pump, cooling fan, thermostat, radiator hose, hose clamps, radiator, radiator cap and coolant. Engine coolant is used to transfer heat from the engine to the radiator by the cooling system. The radiator removes heat from the coolant by forcing air through the radiator cooling fins. Without coolant your engine will overheat and if left unattended severe engine damage will occur. Engine coolant colors can vary from green, orange, blue, clear and yellow each having their own unique protective and environmental properties. Coolant leaks are a common car problem that can lead to overheating; we have listed some of the most common causes below.(Always inspect engine cold to avoid personal injury) (note: coolant and antifreeze refer to the same product, in below freezing, coolant lowers the freeze point hence the name anti-freeze and in warm weather coolant help raise the boiling point, "coolant").
Troubleshooting Procedure
Step 1: Check Engine Coolant Level, Test For Leaks - Engine coolant is used to transfer heat from the engine to the radiator; if a coolant leak is present the engine will eventually overheat. Inspect the engine coolant level in the coolant reservoir tank; coolant level should be between the hot and cold marks. Always check the coolant level when the engine is cold, preferably over night. If the coolant level is not between the reservoir marks the cooling system may have a leak.

If engine overheating has occurred the coolant level will naturally be low due to expansion of the coolant from the extreme heat of the engine. This heat expansion forces coolant out of the radiator and coolant reservoir. To test for an engine coolant leak move the car to a dry smooth surface and allow the engine to cool. Remove the radiator cap and carefully (do not spill) add water until full, then re-install cap. Start engine and allow to run for about three to five minutes (do not allow to overheat) while the engine is running inspect the ground below the engine, if an engine coolant leak is present observe the location of the coolant drops, this will help determine where to start looking for the coolant leak (shut the engine off before inspecting).

If no coolant is observed two additional checks are needed for a complete test. With the engine off remove the engine oil fill cap and turn it over, if a milky oil condensation is present the engine may have a failed cylinder head or intake manifold gasket allowing coolant to leak internally. To inspect engine gaskets disassembly is required. Next, the car heater core must be inspected; the quickest way to check the heater core condition without removal the heater core is to inspect the passenger's side foot well compartment carpet for the presences of coolant. If coolant is present the heater core has failed and must be replaced or repaired. After necessary repairs have been made refill the cooling system with manufacturers recommended engine coolant and recheck operation.

Car has a new radiator and cap, but when i shut the vehicle off it leaks out the coolant reservoir.


are you sure the reservoir is not cracked or? because as you drive the engine coolant expands as you drive and collects in the reservoir, then after you shut the engine down the coolant cools and contracts creating a vacumn and it goes back to the radiator as needed. If the reservoir is cracked it will after you shut it off as the coolant will be higher.

2000 ford ranger 3.0 v6 engine.coolant being forced into the reservior and both top and bottom hoses at radiator are collapsing.i have replaced the thermostat.whats could be problem


It's normal for some fluid to be forced into the reservoir during operation due to fluid expansion and pressure. Usually the fluid in the reservoir will increase or decrease depending on what temperature the engine is at. Unless your truck is overheating I woudn't worry too much; just make sure the fluid level doesn't get too low or too high in the reservoir. If it is running hotter than normal and excessive amounts of fluid are being forced in to the reservoir you might have a blown head gasket. As far as the hoses collapsing; I have a 2001 Ford ranger 4.0 V6 and I noticed that the top radiator hose appeared to be collapsing in one of its bends. I installed a radiator clamp on the hose at that spot just to keep it round and from pinching itself off. It probably happens from the heat; just keep an eye on it. It may be that your hoses need replacing; I know mine did the same thing after just having been installed brand new though. God bless you and I hope everything works out for the best!!! : )

Got truck started & it blew large amount of gas from tailpipe with white smoke & truck died. can get truck started but it idles hard & pure gas coming from tailpipe


sounds like you have a regulator problem if your fuel pump has a built in regulator it might have went bad or if it is separate from the fuel pump it may be bad. fuel injected engines have to reicive the right amount of fuel if your regulator is not workin its dumpin to much fuel into the engine
