We replaced the battery on our 2004 VW Jetta staion wagon. The starter cranks again. However, it does not start due to ( we sprayed some starter fluid into the air intake ) we assume, "No Spark". Please advice. Hans

Remove a spark plug and attach the spark plug lead. Then rest the body of the spark plug against the engine and get someone to turn the engine over and see if the spark plug is sparking.

If there is no spark then you will need to check the ignition system for faults, and the easiest way to do this is to get the Malfunction codes from the ECU.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need more information.

Won't start

there is no sensor that controls the starter motor, i suspect the problem lies with the ignition switch, there will be a single thin wire going to the starter motor, this needs to have battery voltage at it when you crank the ignition switch if you do not have battery voltage there then check it as it comes out of the ignition switch, i hope this helps

1989 vw jetta wont crank. replaced battery still wont start.

There are a couple of possible answers, here...first check all cables and make sure they're clean and well connected. Follow the cable from the battery to the starter should be connected to the selenoid. Again, make sure the connection is firm. Then check all fuses and replace any burned ones.
