This may sound funny, but change the throttle position sensor, this does have to do with the gears changing, but do not purchase one no where but orielly`s,it is there cheaper one, master something, but it is not spring loaded. The higher brand name throttle position sensor is spring loaded and will not work properly,or any other parts store either,I know,I have been threw this already.

Weird shifting after changing ATF and replacing filter

An old saying is "don't change the fluid for the first time after 100k".
If the transmission has not been serviced before 100k doing it after that point often causes problems. It has something to do with what is floating around in the oil.
In your case you may have stirred up some junk that is now in the valve body.

Mini Cooper Transmission Relearn Procedure

If the gear selection display on your Mini Cooper has an x before the gear selected,

like xP or xD or xR, then you need to run this procedure.

The usual cause of this is a dead or disconnected battery for a long period of time.

First make sure you have a good battery that will hold a charge or fix the charging

system problem.

Get the car someplace where you will be able to drive for a mile or two without

interruption on a fairly level road.

Follow ALL steps and don't skip anything.

Clutch Adaptation

1. Begin with a cold engine and start the car. Shift to N for 10 seconds, then shift

to D for 10 seconds.
Shift to P. Display says xP.

2. Repeat the following ten times. Shift to N for 3 seconds, then shift to D for 3

seconds.
Shift to P. Display says xP.

3. Repeat the following ten times. Shift to N for 3 seconds, then shift to R for 3

seconds.
Shift to P. Display says xP.

Step-up Ratio Adaptation

1. Accelerate vehicle to a speed greater than 80 km/h. Don't be afraid to go above

the redline on the tach for a few seconds. At this point the car may buck and snort

a little as it tries to get into a higher ratio. As soon as it settles into a higher

gear and the revs are above 4500, rpm let off the accelerator quickly. Don

My transmission shifts fine when the outdoor temp is 60 deg or less, when it is over 60 deg and the car has been driven for 45 min or more the transmission will begin to shift very hard . this problem is...

Replace your TPS, (Throttle Position Sensor). When the TPS starts to go bad due to the heat from the engine can give fauls reading to the ECM to control the transmission shift points and firmness. The other issues that can cause this is a faulty EPC valve in the transmission that controls the shift firmness.

Start with the simple and replace the TPS, and if that does not help' Add a can of transmission conditioner to your transmission fluid and servcie the transmission oil and filter shortly after. Have the transmission shop test your EPC valve with the Tech2 scanner and run a test gauge to your transmission line to ensure that it's working properly. Only after you have determined that yhe TPS is good if not replaced.

Thank you for unsing fixya and good luck.

Automatic Transmission shifting problems.

i had the same thing...It's the transmission. It's REALLY noticeable shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I was able to get my transmission fixed for 900 bux. That wasn't even a replacement so i can imagine how much it would cost to get it replaced. The shifting will get worse. By the end of my "experience" it wouldn't shift from 1st to 2nd for about 5 minutes until i drove it around for a bit. THen it would "warm up" to the idea of shifting to 2nd gear.

Sounds like the shift lock solenoid is not working, there could be a couple of different things causing this. First thing I would check is the brake light switch witch is located under the dash on the brake pedal assy.. The second thing it could be is the shift lock solenoid its self, wich is located around or near the shifter.

When my 2000 Villager shifts if kind dips or

That movement is called TORQUE STEER. One front wheel pulls harder than the other under acceleration, and as you say, its only noticeable at the first moment. A renewed front end shouldnt have that problem. maybe some steering or arm ball joints are loose, worn out (not replaced) or simply out of alignment. I advise that you take it for a new front end alignment, the technician will tell you about any part out of spec that will impair the alignment.

4th clutch hub splines are stripped off. GM didn't harden the splines until 2004 or so so the early model gradually wear to the point where they are so thin they strip off - and then, no 4th gear
