Bolts holding break calipers way too tight. On drivers side are the bolts left hand thread?

Brake caliper mounting bolts

They are standard thread, and very tight.
If you are facing the bolts from the back of the caliper, you turn counter-clockwise to loosen. If you are facing the caliper from the front you would turn them clockwise. You may need a very large breaker bar and socket to get them loose.

Working on Honda Prelude 1992 with a 2.2 motor can't get bolt off crankshaft pulley wanting to know if it is left or right handed threads

It is standard thread (right handed) and a little more information if you need it: there is a hole on the rear of the block on the drivers side located just behind the rear balance shaft so you can lock your engine #1 cylinder @ TDC with a 6mmX100mm bolt or screwdriver. there is a hole machined into the balance shaft that holds everything still so you can get done....I would also recommend the use of an impact....IT IS TIGHT!!!

Cant get the bolts loose to remove brake caliper bracket, are they reverse thread?

No there right handed try hitting with propane touch 30 seconds or so spray it with wd 40 and try to break it free its funny there usely not bad to lossen unless they got real hot for some reason well good luck

Break fluid leaking in buckets from rear disc break on drivers it the break line or caliper. If the caliper how do I replace it?

It could be a brake line near the caliper, or the brake caliper itself:

Inspect/Service/Replace To be able to replace brake pads, service the rotor, or to replace the caliper, the caliper must be removed. The procedure for doing this will vary according to caliper design. Always follow the specific procedures given in a service manual. Use the following as an example of these procedures:

  • Remove the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  • Raise the vehicle and remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  • Make sure the correct caliper is installed on the correct anchor plate.
  • Lubricate the rubber insulators (if so equipped) with silicone dielectric compound.
  • On a sliding or floating caliper, install a C-clamp with the solid end of the clamp on the caliper housing and the screw end on the metal portion of the outboard brake pad. Tighten the clamp until the piston bottoms in the caliper bore , then remove the clamp. Bottoming the piston allows room for the brake pad to slide over the ridge of rust that accumulates on the edge of the rotor.

  • On threaded-type rear calipers, the piston must be rotated to depress it. This requires a special tool.

  • Disconnect the brake hose from the caliper and remove the copper gasket or washer and cap the end of the brake hose. If only the brake pads are to be replaced, do not disconnect the brake hose. If copper washers or gaskets are used, be sure to use new ones--the old ones might have taken a set and might not form a tight seal if reused.
  • Remove the two mounting brackets to the steering knuckle bolts. Support the caliper when removing the second bolt to prevent the caliper from falling.
  • On a sliding caliper, remove the top bolts, retainer clip, and antirattle springs.

  • On a floating caliper, remove the two special pins that hold the caliper to the anchor plate.

  • On a fixed caliper, remove the bolts holding it to the steering knuckle.
  • On all three types, get the caliper off by prying it straight up and lifting it clear of the rotor.
  • Fill the master cylinder reservoirs and bleed the hydraulic system.
  • Check for fluid leaks under maximum pedal pressure.
  • Lower the vehicle and road test it.

Is the lower pulley bolt a left or right hand thread on a 97 mitsi legnum 4g93 engine?

normal right hand thread. You wont find anything on that particular engine that is left hand thread. Some of them are so tight that you wonder if it is reverse, but rest assure this one is not. May take an impact gun to break it loose.

I'm trying to remove right front caliper to change pads, and can't loosen caliper bolts. (One of them has a rounded head!) How does it come off?

Vehicle on hard flat surface. Two jack stands under the frame towards the front, front in the air, wheel chocks placed behind the rear wheels, parking brake on.

Wheels/tires removed, turn the wheels to the right when working on the right side, to the left when working on the left side.

Don safety glasses, and use a propane torch to heat the area on the brake caliper, where the brake caliper bolt goes into. Use caution as brake fluid is flammable. Keep the flame moving back, and forth, on the brake caliper area for the caliper bolt.

You'll have to experiment in this task. You won't be able to get this area cherry red, and you DON'T want to! Heat the area, tap on the area with a hammer, then try to remove the bolt. Keep doing this procedure until the bolt starts to move. See below for more detail.

You are heating cast iron, which expands more rapidly than the steel bolt. Now take a ball peen hammer, use the flat end, and TAP along the area you heated. DON'T beat on it, just medium taps.

Don leather gloves. Clamp a large pair of curved jaw Vise Grips on that bolt head. Clamp it as tight as you can. Tap the area once more with the hammer, then see if you can get the bolt to turn.

Viewing TOWARDS the brake caliper from the outside of your truck, the Vise Grips should go DOWN to the Right. The bolts have Right handed threads.
Turn to the right to tighten, to the left to loosen.
But you are on the opposite side.

Remember that the bolt head is on the backside of the caliper, therefore you have to orient the direction you need to turn it, to loosen it.

Once you remove a bolt, move it to a safe place to cool down. Do not quench it in water. You will anneal the bolt by doing this, thereby softening the bolt. This = No!
Suggest you use the proper thread tap, and clean the holes of the brake caliper, and the proper thread die to clean the threads of the bolt, before reinstalling.

I have a 2005 Grand Prix and I am trying to replace the break pads. I got the front driver side tire off and tried to remove the caliper bolts and the darn things are stuck on there waaaaay too tight. ...

You have to use an impact socket and a power bar.They are very tight i now and there is a lote of locktight added to the threads when fitted.You can do it.Good luck.Hope i was helpfull.

To remove the caliper, you need a torx head tool (can't remember exact size) to remove the two slide pin bolts.(inside the two small rubber boots at each end of caliper) After getting them loose, remove the brake hose, then remove bolts and caliper. (don't loose the two copper washers...if they aren't in the new caliper box you will need them.) Check and see if the caliper retracts easily after it is removed. If it does, the rubber brake hose may have internally failed and is your problem. If piston is very hard to move, get a new caliper. Replace both side brake pads, not just side you are workingon. (recommend both calipers as well but most times it works fine with one.
When replacing, make sure slides are free in calipers and thread pins by hand so that you don't cross thread them. After it's back together bleed front brakes and before moving car step on brake to re-set pistons.

I want to change brake pads on my 03 Mazda Protege SE. What is best way to release hand break cable from caliber, remove caliber? This is the first set of breaks for this vehicle, but I've replaced pads on...

Some calipers have a bolt holding the hand brake mechanism to the body of the caliper. hold the mechanism with a spnner or If yours dont simply lever the mechanism with a bar or long screw driver. Place a pair of lock pliers/ mole grips on the cable(not too tight or you'll fray/damage the cable) then remove the cable from the caliper. When you get the pads out use a screw driver or wind back tool to reset the caliper travel or you will damage the caliper or lose the hand brake altogether.
