Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Montero
This could be a problem in the brake lines, Try bleeding the brakes

Or possibly your brake switches are out of adjustment. Or lastly it could be the ABS console box which has become faulty and needs replacing..
The last one though should show up if you use an error code reading machine to read error codes produced by your cars computer.
