Question about 1991 Acura Legend
Try checking the cable at the transmission first, then at the dashboard. If it's properly connected and not loose, you might try putting some graphite in the cable shaft housing. You have to disconnect the cable, squirt the graphite in there and reconnect the cable. You can get graphite at your local auto parts store. If that doesn't remedy the issue, then replace it!
You can get a new cable from the Acura dealer nearest you, or you may get one online. I would try online first, get the necessary part number and relative price. Check both OEM and aftermarket parts.
Then I'd go look at my local dealer and compare prices. Most often, if you're not in a hurry, online will be the cheaper option.

Sometimes this is the VSS starting to fail. It is located on the forward part of the differential. It will need to be replaced.
Sometimes this problem is the odometer itself (less likely). If that is the case there is little you can do to fix it other than replace the gage cluster itself.
