Thats the 64 million dollar question. With proper transmission maintenance and not using the car for towing you should be able to get any where from 150K to 300,000 miles. But this is only with proper maintenance and no severe driving. The biggest cause of transmission failures is friction. The lack of clean fluid and filter to carry away the worn clutch disc parts that you wear out over time. When these pieces of debris are not removed or cause the filter to clog this causes excessive wear on the transmission. Like the engine, regular oil and filter changes will pay their way in the long run.
